Nice to get "legacy" players like McCartney and Kelly. Too bad Ballage thought he had to go elsewhere.
Honestly thought exactly the same thing at the time. He was totally undersized and not recruited by anyone that I remember. The greyshirt definitely helped.I thought it was a total favor offer. So glad I was wrong.

Coleman is another guy who has flashed some, and he always hustles. Remember the Cal screen play? He was the only one still going after the play 50 yards down field. Gotta love it.
Good to see Derek showing to. He's got room to add a lot more weight on his frame so I can't wait to see what he brings going forward.
Ya Coleman's looked pretty good. I pretty much counted him out after his torn ACL and Achilles. I wonder how much better he would be without those injuries
This is more confirmation to me this staff can ID "diamonds in the rough". McCartney is a good DE as a frosh, imagine how good he'll be with a season or 2 under his belt.I was floored the first time I saw him on TV this year. He did not look like the tight end out of Faith Christian Academy we signed as a grayshirt candidate back in 2012.
You do realize that this staff did not recruit mccartney, right? This is more confirmation to me this staff can ID "diamonds in the rough". McCartney is a good DE as a frosh, imagine how good he'll be with a season or 2 under his belt.
I spaced that. Oops. I am easily confused :lol:You do realize that this staff did not recruit mccartney, right?

That's an impressive list.Yeah. Embree & staff get credit for that recruiting evaluation. MacIntyre honored all the Embree scholarship verbals, so it's hard to tell which he would have independently offered from that group if they hadn't already been committed.
Looking back to the 2013 class, this is the list of guys who were recruited post-Embree:
Michael Adkins
Chidobe Awuzie
Connor Center
Timothy Coleman
Jordan Gehrke
Addison Gillam
Kenneth Olugdobe
Markeis Reed
Ryan Severson
Tedric Thompson
(I think that's correct.)
That's an impressive list.
Imagine how it will be when we start winning games.
Three words: Texas, Florida, Michigan.
Tons of 4*s, massive FAIL on the field. It's also what you do with what you got!

Coleman is friend of family. He said these kids are ready to win.
I was wondering the same thing.Isn't McCartney's dad Shannon Clavelle? He's got bad ass defensive end in his blood (and hopefully a better moral compass).
I can't say for sure what kind of kid he is, but I've seen him and his brother at church and they at least appear to be top notch young men. I think Mac the Elder is like a father to them.Isn't McCartney's dad Shannon Clavelle? He's got bad ass defensive end in his blood (and hopefully a better moral compass).
Since Derek's last name isn't Clavelle, I'm guessing SC had very little impact on the kid's life. Could you imagine having Bill McCartney be your grandfather? No wonder Derek already has 70 college credits and is going to be a doctor!!!I can't say for sure what kind of kid he is, but I've seen him and his brother at church and they at least appear to be top notch young men.
