Dillon vs. Sefo for 2013 Starter

Been reading the updates of Sefo's exploits this year plus hearing mostly good things about Dillon.

We don't really know what our coaching situation will be nor what our offense will be next year, but here's to hoping Dillon and Sefo end up in the battle for the starting and backup spots next year.

Sefo for zone read and Dillon for pro package - but remember all those great reports about how Wood looked last summer and spring?

I know-I am worried about that. Although at least in the case of Sefo the rumors are not from inside the team but from on field performance. What a unique concept, eh?

Nothing against either of them, but damn, it just sucks that we're looking at either a true freshman or a redshirt freshman to lead the team at QB next year.

I hear you but the past few years some of the best QB's and players overall in the nation have been FR QBs. Johnny football comes to mind (not to compare either of them to him, but..)

It is a moot argument if Embree and EB are still here. You could start Peyton Manning for the Buffs next year, and with those two clowns it will be Season = Fail.

I know - but look at O, stanford and aTm and about a half a dozen other schools kicking @$$ with young guns

Yeah, I wasn't at all trying to imply that they couldn't be great and that there aren't great FR QBs. It's more a frustration with the fact that no QB seems to improve year over year once they get here and it always feels like we're hoping the next freshman (or redshirt freshman) will come in and be an upgrade over the returning QBs.

+1.... lets just cross our fingers for the big announcement after the game Friday

Johnny Football is a big story party because it's so unusual for a redshirt freshman to be so successful that young. It's rare, but with offensive playmakers, good protection, and a stout defense it's possible. With our roster and coaching, it's going to be very ugly with a freshman starting at QB.

i'm excited to see these kids play and I think they both have skills that will raise the bar eventually for our QB play, but we would be wise to temper expectations. Dillon is running the other team's offense in practice an is coming off shoulder surgery. Sefo is playing against high schoolers. I can live with some growing pains next year, but what I really want to see is one of these guys to establish himself as "the guy" and give the team someone to rally behind.

I just watched Sefo Liufau play in person this weekend. Big, strong kid. There was a play where he was running out of the pocket looking for a receiver to pass to and was about to be tackled. He proceeded to stiff arm the defender to the ground and then get the pass off. Hes not a really runner. He stands back there and makes his reads, even under pressure, and gets his passes off. He'll stand in there forever, even if hes gonna get hit. Since we live in the same state, I've followed what hes done, and I think he will be a bid asset. 3 yr starter, led his team to the finals as a sophomore, & now they are in the semifinals this season.

Thanks SpoBuffalo for that update. It seems that mobile QBs (even ones who think pass first) are in major demand at the College and NFL levels now so I think Sefo has lots of upside for us.

Agree with the last few posts... Sefo is more Aaron Rodgers than Mike Vick. Behind our sieve of an offensive line, that is what we need. He'll have every opportunity to come in and start so long as the current (or future) staff is able to keep his commitment.

BTW, Manziel was once strongly committed to Oregon; but, the writing was on that wall that Mariota was the future for the Duckers. That was a pretty big coup for Sherman's staff in getting Manziel to commit (and red shirt) to aTm while he was waiting for Tannehill to graduate.

Dillon's been practicing the zone read on the scout team. The new OC will have some talent at QB finally, and with PRich and Thomas some talent at WR. And Powell some at RB. If the O line were functional, this could be decent O next year...with a good OC that is...

Helped significantly by the fact that UT never offered. I read somewhere that Manziel was a huge UT fan growing up. Anyway, I think Sefo could be a stud. I just hope no one else flips him.

- Sefo Liufau, QB, All he does is win (41-4 as a starter) playing in the state semi-finals for the second time in three years.

This year Awards:

1) Narrows League 4A MVP
2) All Area Player of the Year

Silly argument until Sefo actually signs. Making any assumptions about this staff or recruiting class seems pointless right now.

A&M has a great offensive line. Possibly the best and most experienced O-line in the country. You can overcome a lot of inexperience at QB if you have a mature and cohesive O-line.

Yup. They got some push against that Bama DL. Only other team to do that was LSU.

Pretty excited to see the 3* recruits represent! LOL! Was curious...I've been following Johnny Football's stats and I noticed that he also seems to be one of the leaders in rushing on the team as well. Is that the future of the college QB. Needing to be a dual threat?

Considering the stubbornness of this staff, I think you all are delusional.

Nick Hirschman will start next year, with Webb in the back-up spot. Put my personal stamp guarantee on that one.

Been...hearing mostly good things about...
Sounds more like a GEICO commercial to me. They can't print anything that's not true on the Internet. Even French models have to tell the truth. Bon jour. Mais oui!

But seriously, I have seen how much coaching up that Embree & Co have done, and I'm sure they'll continue to maintain this hallmark of achievements.

If we are lucky enough to land Sefu, I think he starts from day 1. Dillon is just not physically ready yet.
