DiStefano sets bar for Buffs, Hawkins

News Junkie
Colorado football coach Dan Hawkins and athletic director Mike Bohn have resisted throughout the offseason establishing any rock solid criteria -- such as a win total -- for what will qualify as a successful season this fall.

I want to believe, but it seems to me like those quote still has plenty of wiggle room....

"I think we have to look at the whole season and see what happens with each game," DiStefano said. "But my goal, of course, is to see us go to a good bowl game."

Good job by the Chancellor here. This was a case of the university making it publicly known that it cares about winning and has Bohn's back. That was important.

I like what I've been seeing and hearing lately. It seems like we're finally getting back to sensibility after the "scandal" and its aftermath.

I'd be happier with a definitive "8 wins or hit the road, jack", but this is good, too. It also gives them wiggle room to can him if they don't like the bowl we go to. Technically, they could fire him if he wins 9 games, but only gets an invite to the Alamo Bowl.

So, what bowl games are appropriate? BCS bowls, Cotton, Holiday, and...?

I still think Alamo is a good one

:yeahthat:

I'd say good enough: BCS, Cotton, Holiday, Alamo, maybe even the Insight?

Appearing in the Pinstripe or Texas Bowls or the Dallas Football Classic would really stretch the definition of a "good bowl"....

Remember that there's virtually zero chance CU ends up in the Alamo Bowl. They're not going to invite CU, the team that's ditching the conference, to a bowl held deep in the heart of Texas. Same goes for the Cotton, assuming we have the kind of record that would justify an invite in the first place.

Holiday, Gator or better for me. I'd suspect that if CU can manage 8 wins, that the Holiday Bowl would be receptive to an invite, given the conference move.

The Gator Bowl is now a Big Ten/SEC game...

a word about DiStefano....I don't know what him saying he expects a good bowl really means and interesting, to me, that he's even speaking at this thing; but, I've encountered DiS a few times throughout the years and most people i know think reasonably highly of his ability and commitment to CU...so, i was a little uneasy with the thrashing he got around the boards when Hawk wasn't canned....because from my experience at CU with our admin "leadership", going back to Judy Albino and Buffalo Betsy....DiStefano is a good thing for CU near as i can tell. just my opinion.

Mick, I agree with you. I think Benson, DiStephano, and Bohn are a positive step up from the previous administrations. As for the thrashing, much of it probably was unwarranted, but it is what comes with the territory.

yes, but i think they also have a Big XII or Notre Dame option they are free to exercise if they want....something like that. unless that ended.

That appears to have ended. Their web site now just says it will be SEC/Big (Insert Integer)....

When did that change? No matter.

OK, so Holiday or better for me.

I always thought of Holiday as a better bowl than Alamo. However the Alamo takes Big 12 and Pac 10 #3 teams and the Holiday takes Pac #4 and Big 12 #5.

I think that's new this year too. The Holiday definitely always got a higher Big XII pick than the Alamo in the past. I think when the Pac 10 signed on to the Alamo Bowl, the Big XII switched things up to give them a better match up. Plus, the Alamo Bowl is in Texass, so naturally the powers that be in the Big XII would want to kiss up to it...

Thanks for the info. I thought maybe my brain was going bad.

Holiday used to be Pac #2, Big XII #3. or, when the XII had two BCS bids....#4.

Alamo used to be a XII-Biff Ten matchup. usually 4's and 5's.
