Does UCLA play us dirty

We all noticed the chipiness of the game last night. Our guys, who were mostly reacting, seemed to get the most penalties for it. Even Sefo said in his presser that UCLA was engaging in 'extracurriculars' under the pile and that even made him angry.

Coach Mac won't tolerate personal fouls...even if they are reactions. Will Jim Mora?

Even UCLA fans noticed this. For example here is a post from Bruins Nation http://www.bruinsnation.com/
Anyone notice...

…that after the 3rd or 4th personal foul committed by Colorado how incensed their coach was and immediately took the offending player out of the game? Wadood commits a personal foul for pushing down on the CO QBs head after a tackle….and nothing happens. That says something about the different coaching philosophies.
...
UCLA football, always doing less with Mora…

Does the UCLA program look the other way?

Mora is only a head coach because his daddy was a head coach. He had one winning season in the NFL and he certainly seems to have UCLA on a downward trajectory and playing way below their talent level. As for Mora tolerating dirty/stupid play? Hard to say based on one game but Mac certainly seemed a lot more upset about it as you would hope a coach would be.

It certainly seems odd the way Colorado played. They have been the most disciplined and least penalized team in the Pac 12. I doubt they decided to be dirty and undisciplined all of the sudden.

UCLA always does less with more. That should be inscribed on the Rose Bowl.

And yes, Mora clearly was OK with the way they were playing as evidenced by his lack of giving a **** when his players got flagged for PFs.

Watching him on the sidelines last night, he didn't even seem upset by the impending loss, like it was business as usual.

UCLA came into this season with the talent to contend to go to a quality bowl game, maybe not the Rose bowl but not the Vegas bowl either. They had an NFL prospect QB, a number of 4* and 5* players and were ranked in the top 25.

Now they are dead in the water and not going to any bowl. They have been beaten and know it. Rather than focus on winning they are venting frustrations. Mora has no control over what is happening on the field and I'm guessing in the locker room.

At this point I don't mind seeing them lose but I do hope the cheap shots don't lead to somebody getting hurt.

Maybe someone wants to take the time to find the actual post-game quotes from MacIntyre and Mora when asked about the personal fouls... but it amounted to Mac saying it was not acceptable & the team would have a "fun" Friday morning... while Mora brushed it off as part of the game.

My thought is that UCLA was playing that way to try and get an edge in the game as if that were their only chance to win... Love to see Mora-lite extended for many years in Westwood

I agree and can understand the way they might feel (even though that doesn't justify their actions). When people say UCLA sucks that isn't at all correct. UCLA has nearly beaten a schedule full of top 20 teams...including an A&M team that is currently voted as a playoff team. That one was at A&M and came down to one possession in the final seconds. UCLA is actually a good team that just can't finish. Pretty similar to CU last year except they just can't handle it with their highly recruited prima donnas. They don't have the senior leadership 'cause their best players get poached by the NFL. Hope that doesn't happen to us in a few years.

To the OP, yes, they seem to play us dirty. The Buffs got suckered into playing at that level last night, but maybe it's part of a maturation process that they need to go through. Last night's game is something future teams (and this team) can look back on and know they have risen above. To me, the team who plays clean and has fun has a serious edge over those who play dirty.

MacIntyre was so incensed last night because he wants to win without regrets, IMO. Having played on fairly successful teams that played both styles, I have to admit that playing dirty has its attraction, but winning while playing straight up usually makes for continued team success.

Yup. The pampered Bruins aren't taking it well that's the former doormat sitting deep in the playoff rankings while they're looking at their APR to see if they can play Middle Tennessee State at 5-7 in the Dollar General Bowl.

:..that and they suck despite their talent and dragged us down

UCLA has been snakebitten this season. I still somehow subscribe to the Dead-Tree-Driveway-Thrown Edition of the LA Times, and can't help but read the articles in the "Sports Section" about them. Believe it or not, the Buffs' historical yet much-complained-about victory is the worst defeat (by points) that UCLA has suffered all season, and that includes some games against good teams. So we are good.

i'm predicting that the guys who last through the initial rookie NFL contract come from a program like CU; not UCLA ...commitment and focus are important.

look at #theriseisreal if you have questions...

I agree and disagree with the "UCLA sucks" sentiment.

I mean, do they suck like Kansas sucks? No way. They have stayed in a lot of games with a lot of good teams, so in absolute terms, they don't suck, they're just not good at sealing the deal.

OTOH, look at the collection of talent on that team. 4* all up and down the roster. They were a popular pick to win the conference, for crying out loud. But they probably won't get a bowl game. So in relative terms, they're a serious disappointment. Compared to the team they were expected to be, they do kinda suck.

I get that Rosen being hurt really hamstrings them, but their biggest problem is with their HC. They seem to be a mess in a lot of ways, and that comes down to the head coach.

mora really is a gigantic douchebag. at the post game presser, he was asked about rosen, and he said "josh, who?"

i hope they keep him forever. as long as he's the coach, they will never, ever be good.

I re-watched. We deserved the penalties. But, man, it sure seemed like UCLA wasn't being held to the same standard as we were. I saw a few occasions where they weren't flagged for similar transgressions as ours that were flagged. Oh well. We won so **** UCLA.

Want respect, you gotta earn it man. That's my take on it. We haven't been good in a freaking decade. Getting there but it's a process. People don't give a rat's nasty ass what we did 20 years ago but us, it'll come.

The cast is the dirty team we just played, and the team we are about to face. Somehow characters from CU history made it into the fray...amazing.

Bet you forgot about this one. I was reminded of this by reading a very good UCLA article about the CU/UCLA game here:

http://www.pacifictakes.com/2016/11/8/13547830/ucla-bruins-crash-and-burn-in-boulder

Very good 'cause the UCLA homer admits that the CU game was their best defensive effort of the year by far...a near virtuoso performance by the UCLA D...and they still lost.
