For it's next head coach. He's a TOTAL character --- a one of a kind dude -- that has, over the last 3 years, the #1 ranked, #3 ranked, and #1 ranked defenses in the country. Oh, and he's had massive success without Michigan talent -- at UConn and Boston College, he coordinated top 5 defenses nationally as well.

He'd need to bring with him a GREAT offensive coordinator, but he'd be a home run. I honestly have no idea why his name isn't being brought up more.

Plus, the last time CU hired a Michigan DC it didn't go too badly..... :)

63 years old and never been a HC.

I'd love him as a DC, but he's already making $1.4M so that's not happening.

Seems like Wade Phillips to me. He’s out there having fun, chest bumping his players, and firing up everyone. The defense loves playing in his scheme.

Edit: whoops didn’t finish my thought. Sometimes the fun, excellent coordinator should just stay the fun, excellent coordinator.

How about the Bama OC?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Locksley

Football is all about offense now...I think we would do well with an offensive guy from a successful P5 program. He's been an interim HC and anyone from Saban's tree is a get.
I used to love Locksley and he's always been able to recruit. But his HC stint at UNM was such a frikin disaster that it would be hard to pull that trigger.

He does have some HC experience. He was the UMass coach in the mid - 2000's. Also coached at lower levels if I remember correctly. However I think he enjoys just focusing on defense. Yet think of how bad our current defense would get torched with "Dr. Blitz" at the helm.

He's the only one I remember that did anything. Besides, UNM cares about basketball above anything else, it's not really close.

Tosh Lupoi? I'm supremely intrigued by him but I'm not sure he has the experience yet to be a HC. I could be quite wrong but just the perception.
Would be following the exact line of thinking that Ole Miss used when they replaced Cutcliffe with Orgeron. Beware.

Tosh being called a top notch recruiter is a little premature IMO, alabama recruits itself. Being some kind of D coordinator guru is a little fresh also. When your coaching Clydesdales vs Quarter Horses anyone can look good.
I am not saying he isn't a great coach, but huge differences between alabama and where CU is.

Tosh didn't get the recruiter rep at Alabama. That goes back a lot of years.

His recruiting reputation was earned wel before he went to Alabama.

I just feel CU can not afford to **** this one up. I think (if HCMM is let go?) they need to aim for the stars, all they can say is no. We need a name that the general public and players at the HS level have heard. I know there are no guarantees, but look at all the hype from the nubs bringing in frosty. Remember when Harbaugh went to michigan all the hype. That is what CU needs. Not some guy everyone has to do a Google search on.

No doubt Tosh would be a gamble. But any coach they hire without HC experience would be a gamble. Tosh would be a great gamble to take the way I see it. There is no doubt in my mind he would recruit at the level that would put CU in a position to compete for the PAC12 title every year. One thing you would definitely want to do is build a staff around him that does have experience. Kurt Roper type of guys. Don't hire an OC that has never called plays. Same with DC. And so on. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Tosh Lupoi think of him as a much better version of Chev. In every way. Sorry to all the people who love Chev but it's true.

The UM fans want him locked up with amazing money too. Believe me, he's not going anywhere, just like Venables isnt.
