Donating to CU

I said if they got rid of Embree I would put my "money where my mouth is". Would love to get season tickets but not sure with living in Indianapolis if that is worth it is I could probably make 2-3 games and would have to donate the rest.

If I decide just to donate what is the best method? I was looking online and didn't see the football excellence fund anymore? Did they get rid of this? The only thing I saw in the drop down now is the student excellence and that is considered non benefit. Is the CU Buff Club the only donation option now?

You could also sell them online. You can typically get a decent ROI going that route.

Bump. I am also looking into this and from what I could tell donating from cubuffs.com seemed to be the way to go. Can anyone confirm the best way to make sure a donation goes straight to the athletic dept?

so far, that's the only way I know of, although I haven't yet walked up to Bohn with a suitcase full of cash.

Let's just try to keep this thread on track. I hope the OP's questions have been answered.

I am still wondering what happened to the Football Excellence Fund. I have been told it still exists but when you go to the donation setup the drop down doesn't have it anymore?

Call that guy who I PMed you about. He can explain. They're rolling out a new website soon.

Dio's right they are re-tooling the whole thing, so the best bet for the moment is personal contact.

Really - this goes for anyone. If you're looking for someone to help direct your donation and provide you more information, then shoot me a PM and I can send you a direct contact.

While we're on the talk of donations....I like the donornet site, but the point system frustrates me sometimes how certain actions gain you more points while others gain you none

I personally hate that if I spend the money to go to an away game and buy 8 tickets costing me an insane amount of $ or if I buy additional single game tickets to certain events again providing larger sums of money to the university I receive 0 points, but if I spend $12 for WBB season tickets I get 5 points.....i want more points DAMNIT!!!

I agree about single game tickets, but only if the money is going to CU - if it benefits someone else then it shouldn't count.

Not sure how away tix work if you purchase them through the CU allotment....I would think CU gets a chunk if not all proceeds if selling tickets from their given allotment. Especially given it's a giant rip off as you purchasing full price tickets (most of which are pricier than many seats in Folsom) for the worst seat in the house (visitors section)

Haven't bought through CU for away games for that very reason. Would rather pay a little more for a good seat. Sure I am surrounded by the enemy but it is all good.

I paid $175 for 2 tickets to the UW game in Seattle last year..... awful, awful seats.

Yup. Will probably be better once they get the stadium reno done (closer to the field) but awful nonetheless, Not that the game and a-hole fans helped either.

ive been to autzen a couple of times.... even though game is sold out could buy tickets on 10 yd line for face...much better than vistors "dead endzone" seats

I was just checking out the season ticket interactive map on their site and there are not a lot of sections to request in. Does anyone know if more open up after the renewal process or are these generally the areas you have to start in?

The only ones currently available are: 109, 102, 121, 203, 204, 214, and 215.

They will call you after you renew, and at that point you can talk to someone about moving.

That doesn't seem quite right to me, as far as what sections are available. I sit in 210 (The OFFICIAL Allbuffs section) and it is never full

In general (based on my personal experience from the operations side, although my experience was not at CU), schools do not keep the revenue from selling tickets to away games - there is typically two components to an allotment for an away game: a contractually agreed upon quantity of tickets that are given to the visiting school for free, to be used by the players' families, team travel party, etc., and then the general allotment, which are essentially loaned to the school on a consignment basis - any revenue from sales is sent to the host school and unsold tickets are returned to the host school - the only revenue that the school keeps from sales would be whatever processing fees they charge.

I am not renewing. Would be a first time buyer. Another confusing part is the site says sales start Feb. 1st but it still lets me reserve in the sections I listed if I want to?

I was actually looking at 210, didn't know it was the Albuffs section, but the map says none currently available.

That is good to know, as I'll probably venture towards purchasing much better tix directly through the opposing school then in the future.....if no financial benefit to CU then why pay the same price as the guy at the 50 yard line to sit essentially next to the paristyle at the Coliseum

I buy season tickets, knowing I'll only attend a handful of games. I do this because season ticket ownership is the base level of athletic support. The number of season ticket sales is a primary indicator of the health of the program. When you make a commitment to buy season tickets, you also make the seat donation. You are rewarded with priority points that enable you to upgrade your seats. These priority points are also useful for away game and (heaven forbid) bowl game tickets.

The extra tickets I don't personally use are a challenge. In years past, Fedex might get a couple hundred bucks from me trying to get the extras in the right hands at the last minute.

Another strategy involves donating them back to the AD for their use. It is good to know they might get used by the parent of a band member, or BigBrother/BigSister or some VIP that the school selects.

Alternately I've made them available to a cousin or a friend or the people who sit next to me in Folsom.

I never have put my tickets on stubhub or Craig's list because there is a chance they might end up in enemy hands. I respect the people in the seats around me too much to let that happen.

Beyond the season tickets, I try to make a habit of rewarding excellence, like when the XC team wins conference, or Emma and Shalaya go to the Olympics, or Mike sends the C-Unit to ABQ.

I am price sensative in most of my purchases. But CU isn't a purchase to me; its more like my favorite charity. That mind frame takes some of the sting out of that discretionary expense.

Those are donation sections. They haven't started renewing the non donation sections yet from what I can tell.

This is one of those situations where the web is inferior to picking up the phone and calling.

The CU foundation has a director specifically assigned to the CUAD.

She had access to many various funds that exist, but aren't listed on the web. ("Not enough space" was the last excuse I was provided.)

The CU foundation is committed to honoring funds that have been set up by donors for special purposes. However I suspedt that the foundation can push money around by offsetting donations with reduced allocations from the general funds.

CU really doesn't advertise the large selection of funds that exist. Their strategy is to get donors to give broadly and trust that the AD will put your money towards the area they choose. It saves them the headache of playing the shellgame.
Donors, on the other hand, want to have a little say so over where their money goes.

This tension between foundation and donor is handled poorly IMO, because its confusing and not very transparent. Transparency builds trust. CU has often been critisized for having a bunker mentality punctuated by a patronizing desire to simply take your money while limiting your ability to customize the direction of your donation.

CU knows best.

With this in mind it sounds like I would be better served by purchasing season tickets. At least I know my contribution is then assisting the football team and my money is not at the mercy of the foundation.

through the football excellence fund you can "restrict" your gift to football operations only. I did this with basketball this year because i didnt want my donations supporting Embree's dumpster fire.
