I'm completely sauced right now.

Since I'm generally a happy drunk, that has me feeling pretty good about the CU Football moves and KD.

1. I wanted the entire offensive staff fired after the Minnesota game.

I got Rod canned a few weeks later and the entire staff replaced by regular signing day other than Hagan.

Not as fast as I wanted, but I've got the impatience of a fan. Ultimately, I got what I wanted so I should be happy.

2. I wanted to see strategic additions & subtractions via the transfer portal.

We cleared out over a dozen guys who were at the level I'm generally opposed to recruiting (under a 8.4 composite). We also added QB depth, a flex OT/OG likely starter, and productive RB & WR to numb the pain of bad attrition.

Some JC moves, too. Overall, it's hard to complain outside of the hole created from the Gonzo transfer, but still time left.

3. I wanted a national class rank in the 30s this year.

We're sitting at #48 with a large class (23). It includes zero 4* or 5* prospects. But the median looks better than usual.

Not what I wanted or believe is acceptable, but it is a whole lot of solid. No headliners, but I'm also not seeing signees who I know can't play. Basically, it's a pretty solid roster foundation and depth class that raised the bottom of the roster.

I'm not excited, but I'm also not in "sky is falling" mode any more. I guess that I'm accepting stability and moves of general competency as legit improvement that I feel can get us back to at least being a legitimate program.

The coaching staff is definitely better. The overall talent looks worse but maybe coaching and team Unity will make a difference. Feels like 3-9.

I'll be honest, I saw this thread and thought someone put together a highlight thread of all ahoelsken's wild takes that almost certainly could not have been spouted by a sober human.
Sounds like a fun project for 2-3 people with a ton of time on their hands.

Why because AFA > UNC? Outside of that, I don’t really understand this narrative that’s been popular on AllBuffs. aTm > TCU and the conference schedule is relatively the same
The conference has gotten better, and the home/away schedule that worked in our favor in 2021 works against us in 2022. UW and OSU both on the road are probable losses. The only game that tilts in our favor there is ASU.

Eh, maybe the rest of the conference has gotten better? CU fans have a tendency to think CU is the only program staying the same or getting worse. Maybe OSU had an anomaly season in 2021 and will regress back to their mean. There’s really no evidence that suggests UW will be better than last season. Their HC hire would have been viewed as small time at CU but because it’s UW, it’s universally lauded?

I don’t see anything from the conference schedule in February that definitively says it’s harder, and the OOC is about the same in my mind.

OOC is definitely harder.

0-3 is in play. It wasn't last year.

3-0 is just as much a thin hope.

TCU… I think Sonny Dykes and his coaches game plan something that’ll humiliate our really questionable defense.
USAFA… do we have linebackers who can tackle?
Minnesota… LOL

2-1 is not anywhere the conversation. 1-2 is the best outcome.
Just like aTm was supposed to be a 28+ point loss last year. TCU in Boulder is a toss up. 2-1 is very much in the conversation

You must’ve forgotten that aTm had Calzone at QB. Prior to the game of his life against Bama, his QBR was much closer to Brendan Lewis than any starter in the $EC.

We still are bereft at depth and talent at LB. It got worse with the losses we had to the NFL. 1-2 will be a miracle. 0-3 is far more likely.

I hope you're wrong but, I'm not very confident in that. Too many damn questions on this squad.

Everything is in the eye of the beholder.

Some are talking one, two or three wins in the out-of-conference slate. I’m thinking one, two or three wins for the season, with a zero certainly possible.
Losing every game is surprisingly difficult, even for a poorly coached team - and I don't think we'll be poorly coached. OTOH, I put 4+ wins at the same level of difficulty for this team next year - so we're generally in agreement that one to three wins is the likely outcome in 2022.
