I saw a post on Scout, so I did some digging on the internet.

This is in addition to the sound system upgrade last year as Coors became a Bose Professional Showcase Venue.

And the permanent beer gardens that were added the previous year. http://www.dailycamera.com/news/bou...er-allows-permanent-beer-gardens-at-cus-coors

As much as we sometimes criticize Rick George for being maybe too single-minded in his emphasis on football, I think the evidence is overwhelming that he has also been orchestrating some fantastic improvements to Coors.

Now need to replace all the seat backs with black chairs, and make the first 10 rows of chairs along the side lines padded.

Awesome...new videoboards going up in the Keg...does that mean the ones on the sides will come down and some work would be done in those spaces?

One thing at a time.

My hope is they build new exterior walls around the entire arena so they can move the bathrooms to the outside walls. Then they can put suites in those areas where the bathrooms are currently.

I don't understand the benefit of a a center hung scoreboard.

I suspect at Coors, it's going to block part of the arena view for the upper seats and, in general, I find center hanging boards (e.g. Moby) to be more distracting during game action than the side mounted board we currently enjoy at CEC. The center hanging units may work in bigger arenas, but I think they'll dwarf the space inside the CEC.

I could be wrong, but one benefit may be that the fans can see it.
Also, it is a 40 minute game that is 2 hours ish from arrival to departure. The added entertainment helps with the overall fan experience. Same thing goes for a 60 minute football game that takes 3:15 to 3:30 to complete.

I've attended at least 40 games at the CEC and didn't realize this was a problem that needed to be solved.

From my seats, I can see the boards perfectly.

When I sit with @Buffnik or @absinthe or @RumblinBuff I have a much harder time seeing the boards. I'm not wild about the center scoreboard (I am a strange person who actually enjoys the charm of the Keg being "****ty") but this is a much needed improvement for the stadium for anyone who isn't insane like I am.

Sorry if this hurts some feelings, but when compared to other venues in the top tier of the NCAA MBB, Coors looks small time with its fly away baskets and corner screens.

Wait, there's halftime little people porn? Are my season ticket prices going to go up because of this?

Thank Bohn for the flyaway baskets. Everything he did was small time.

RG is fixing that though

I went to my first CU basketball game in 1985. Those flyaway baskets were there then, Bohn wasn't.
They had on court baskets my freshman and sophomore years. They were then replaced by the flyaway baskets. Something about player safety and viewing angles.

Workers have installed four fly-away baskets in the Coors Events Center for use during practices and will experiment with using fly-away baskets for games.
Fly-away baskets are attached to polls that drop from the ceiling. Bohn said he believes using the fly-away baskets will help improve sight lines for fans at games.

Except for the new practice facility, and coaches offices, and locker rooms, and, and, and......

should probably keep your Bohn criticism to the football forum.
Bohn hired MM. oops.

I believe it's physically impossible for slider to admit Bohn was somewhat competent.

I do think that the overhead scoreboard is much needed, I don't know if it needs to be as big as they state. I would also like to see the movement of the bathrooms to an exterior area of the arena. By doing this, we can add suites to the corners of the arena. I would also put in a false ceiling in the steel work so that it can create better sound acoustics in there. The reason why the Bose speakers didn't do much is because sound waves get muffled out in the steel. A false ceiling will allow for the sound waves to bounce back down. Another thing that CU should do is allow alcohol to be consumed in our seats and that the beer gardens should also be part of the stadium, instead of just tents. Lastly, I would just put a sandstone facade on the stadium. The Keg and also Engineering building are really the only buildings on campus that just don't fit the style of the school.

They were both built when the architectural standards were a little less defined. The EC is going to take some major work to get it to fit in with the rest of the campus. The CEC could be done relatively easily I believe.
