That's a good call for conference games. Walton's a pretty good color guy and he always waxed nostalgic about his college days and Wooden even when he was supposed to be talking NBA. I think this will be a nice fit.
 
I am not as excited about this as you seem to be....I think there will be a pretty big UCLA slant in everything ESPN does at this point
 
We need ESPN to hype UCLA basketball and Pac-12 basketball. Last year, our conference was a national joke and the Bruins didn't even make the NIT despite the weak field. That can't be happening.
 
I'd rather hear Ty Willingham, Dan Hawkins or Rick Neuheisel over Bill Walton. Dude can't talk worth a salt lick....

That said, hopefully he brings good commentary toward the Pac. I'm not holding my breath on this one though...

I don't mind Walton on a broadcast team. He knows bball and is at least mildly entertaining. I'm sure there are much worse choices out there that could have been chosen.
 
Don't care I'll probably just sync it up with the legend, Mark Johnson's radio broadcast
 
Haven't heard the dude for five years, but I imagine he's still a bad broadcaster. Always hated listening when he did nba games. No content at all, can't do play-by-play and can't add color to the game. But I guess my opinion is worthless, since I probably won't hear his stuff for at least another five years...

Confused on the five year part...
 
Unbelieeeeeeeeeevable news! I know a lot of people dislike him, but I think he's awesome. His hyperbole use and storytelling always makes me laugh. Can't wait for bball season.
 
I LOVE Walton. Love him. Him calling Clippers games in 2003-05 was the highlight of having League Pass. In an industry full of blow-hards who think they know more than they do and take it way too seriously, Walton is perfect.

Walton is the Johnny Miller of basketball announcing. IMHO anyway.
 
I love Walton. Guy is relatively objective, at least compared with Steve Kerr. And he cracks me up.
 
I don't mind having Walton on the broadcast. He is one of the few color guys who doesn't act like the audience is full of idiots. He will point out simple and pretty obvious stuff but he will also go more in depth and make legitimate criticisms of what is happening on the floor.

He also brings his experiences as a former player but also speaks like he actually bothered to get an education while at UCLA. He's also a good choice from the standpoint of the league in marketing the network. He is a known name and gives national credibility.
 
I enjoy Walton, and have more respect for him considering he used to be a terrible stutterer and couldn't string two sentences together back in college.

Random Walton story from friends: When Walton was still doing NBA games, he was doing a radio show or something at a bar, and my buddies were there. The nuggets were playing the Spurs, and he started talking about Tim Duncan. My buddies started booing, he turned around and looked them straight in the eye, in his Bill Walton voice, 'YOU DON'T BOO TIM DUNCAN".

I don't know if anyone else finds that funny, but I do.
 
I'd love to be hearing Walton over Van Gundy. What a douche. Ruining the NBA playoffs with his lame tough guy commentary.
