Fifteen College Coaches who need to win (guess who made the list)

Tell us something we dont know.

Im not surprised Al Golden is #1. It seems that CU, UM, VT and maybe Iowa, maybe Syracuse are the premium/legacy programs on that list.

Hey, you gotta love this opening sentence.

Something about not recovering from the scandal.

I wonder how many people actually remember what the scandal was.

It's a testament to our poor handling of the event that CU is still associated with the word "scandal" a decade and a half later, when schools with far more alarming (and more recent) events have not been saddled with that tag.

We as fans and alums are hypersensitive and hyperaware of what happened. Don't kid yourself if you think PSU types are not feeling it either. As a non PSU type I know only the basics of what happened. And have forgotten a lot.

Vanderbilt will move on from their scandal long before we will. UT expelled a couple of guys for a raping an unconscious girl, and that hardly made a national blip.

Neither of those programs hired Dan Hawkins in conjunction with any sanctions that may have been placed on the program. There's your difference right there.

Well, that combined with what our lacrosse team did to that poor girl.

Dan Hawkins wasn't the reason why it made national news. At the time it speared to be a great hire.

Given the restrictions placed on the program while. Barney was here there were a lot of coaches that never considered the CU job.

We gimped ourselves far worse than the hiring of hawk. Barney not being able to handle the media certainly did us more harm.

Hawkins was a bad hire, in hindsight, and his G5 recruiting hamstrung this program. I'm not suggesting his hiring was the sole reason; that's why I said "In conjunction with the sanctions...", but it was a big contributing factor.

If you can prosecute the kids who did it, you can move on. CU's initial incident being labeled a "recruiting sex party" made it an institutional problem, and it was all downhill from there.

What's weird about the Vanderbilt case is I thought the victim was like an unofficial host for recruiting and the football team. Franklin interacted with her before and after the incident.

Not one that's officially recognized as a Varsity sport. We do have a damn good men's club lax team, though. That's why I was confused; I didn't know if something happened with that club team.
You should drink a lot more coffee and assume everything posted is a joke. That approach has served me well here.

Well, this thread didn't exactly go the way I expected.

Back to the glory days! Go Buffs! Colorado rocks. I mean, Colorado rocks!

One of these years, Colorado is going to emerge from being a Pac-12 doormat and return to the glory days it saw in the 1990s.

Honestly, in Allbuffs' lackluster history, the only thread that went as planned was the "All in one threadjack thread", and even that one strayed from intent a few times.

Bohn certainly hired Hawkins based on appearance and didn't vet him as he should have. If he had, he would probably found out that Hawkins wasn't all that well liked or thought of by his own staff and that he was not the "brains" behind BSU's success. The only thing fans could look at were BSU's results and, therefore, he seemed like a great hire.

Agreed. I'm not arguing with the hire when it was made. He was a hot commodity at the time and would have been a P5 HC somewhere that year or the year after. The downward spiral of our beloved program was unlike many others that took a hit with sanctions, though, and comparing us to Vandy or UT is apples to oranges. Not only were we hit with sanctions and had our rep destroyed, but we parlayed that by hiring the wrong coach and keeping him around for 5 years.

I hate thread jacks - particularly ones that start in the construction thread.

In deep soul-searching retrospect, I'm not really surprised. Thread jacks don't bother me. I do think, as a fan base, we complain an awful lot about how people never forget the scandal, when we are the same folks who bring it up when it needs not be highlighted in every thread.

I was hoping for a little more "can't wait until Colorado is fearsome again" rah, rah, rah!

To be fair, the scandal remark came straight from the article, not from the fanbase.

If it wasn't a sticky thread I wouldn't have cared. Thanks to whichever mod cleaned it up!

Some of the more draconian recruiting restrictions were imposed by CU itself if I recall (no overnight stays and constant adult supervision kind of crap). If the CU admin. had rallied behind the AD like they should have, and put an emphasis on getting thru it and behind them as fast as possible, it would never have tanked as bad as it did. So many things all rolled into one big sh*t sandwich. Then to top it off, Hawkins turned into the flim flam zen master instead of a real coach, so at a time of still tight budgets and admin. indifference to football, we couldn't recover.
