Folsom Audio Getting Repaired/Upgraded on Friday

This Friday afternoon, CU Athletics will be conducting a test of the sound system at Folsom Field. Engineers plan to replace critical components, and they must test the equipment while the installation crew is on campus. Thank you for your patience as we continue to improve our Folsom Field facilities.

Students, let us know how it goes. Doesn't sound like a full blown upgrade, but hopefully enough to make it functional. During the game Saturday I felt like they had improved it somehow, but mostly by just blasting the volume.

Any news on WiFi coverage for their great new app? Which, by the way, still didn't work for chit last Saturday.

My theory is that once Folsom hits 35k, everything signal related goes to crap. Hope they improve that soon. I want to listen to the broadcast dammit!
 
The idea behind the app is fantastic. Looking it over, it has some great features that should really enhance the in-game experience. The problem is that if nobody can use it, it's worthless. I think this is simply one of those cases where they rolled out the app without giving any thought to where and how it was going to be used.

Everyone who is not already at the game disagrees with you - it's a great way to easily listen to CU games while out of state.

Quite right. You've caught me in a moment of incredible selfishness. I honestly didn't think that anybody OUTSIDE of the stadium would access the app. It never occurred to me. I guess I figured they'd watch it on TV, listen to the radio, or watch on ESPN gamecast.

ugh, i remember "watching" games on ESPN gamecast. What a horrible thing.

I'm sure they did, it may have been too late to install a wifi system to accommodate it in time, or they may have not had the money to do so. The question instead should be if they should have released the app before they had the proper infrastructure in the stadium. But as others point out, it's very useful to people who can't get to the game.
 
I found the app to be quite useful when needing a quick brush up on Folsom policies (e.g. what is allowed to bring in, new policy for <2 years old, etc.). Two or three touches on my phone versus a dozen or two clicks on cubuffs.com.
 
Yes. The app itself is very useful. It's the ability to access and use the app whilst inside the stadium on gameday that is the problem.
 
See that post with all the boxes partially obstructing the sight lines to the field? Those appear to be wi-fi routers. Sure would be nice to get those embedded under the bleachers. It's not an easy task to retrofit an old stadium to optimize wireless coverage.

The newer stadiums have radio engineering built into the design. Notice the boxes up in the rafters at Amon Carter stadium for connectivity. No ugly posts at TCU. Their distributed antenna system doesn't look like something purchased at Best Buy and assembled by MacGyver.

saw those, was really close to one. It did nothing once the crowd got to a certain point.

Posted a link the other day part of the PACs deal with att is for them to build out the WiFi and cell antenna's in PAC stadiums. Was supposed to be done for the 2014 season. Not sure what is going on here.

If it is AT&T and they promised something for 2014, we'll be very lucky to have it by 2016.
 
Did they fix the sound in the basketball arena yet? I'm not sure but I think I remember some of you guys saying it sucked ass pretty bad.

I am pretty sure that those devices have something to do with booth/sideline communication, which appears to be a brand-new conference provided system sponsored by ART.
