Football: Bill McCartney feels Jon Embree will 'get it done'

He said that about Hawk also.

Besides all that - Embree was 'Mac's choice' in a lot of ways, so this isn't unexpected.

Love what Coach Mac did for this program, but it is time for him to step aside in a lot of ways - this program needs to rebuild from the ground up.

I love Mac and he is as sharp as a tack. One reason he succeeded was because of his positive thinking and attitude.

At the end of the day, I trust Mac. However, the day-to-day is painful. I hope he sees something down the line most of us stuck with what's in front of us can't see. Mac does know a thing or two about turning around a terrible CU program... ugh.

He is the best motivational speaker I've ever met. That's why he was a such a good good coach. He could inspire players to play above their talent level. IMHO, this is an essential must have talent for any coach trying to turn a program around and I'm starting to doubt if Embo has it.

Is Coach Mac allowed to be a consultant? what are the ncaa rules on this? If possible, CU should bring him in (pay him) and have him help out...

If Embo had it we would be 2-0 right now.

I heard him say similar things about Hawk when he was struggling, and since Embree is "his guy" anyway, I don't take any stock in his comments.

Embree can go to McCartney all he wants.

But if he helps with plays/players/etc. he needs to be a coach.
Well-Embree should have him on speed dial and make a few calls from the sideline during games and especially during halftime / that is when the Buff staff really seems to drop the ball

To be fair Mac absolutely said those things in the first two years about Hawk. Then he quietly disappeared, never making another public comment about the program again while behind closed doors stating "Hawk doesn't get it".

I don't disagree that Mac loves the university and would say things to support the program and JE. To call him an old man and an idiot demonstrates a lack of understanding of his integrity and wisdom.

If Mac cares so much about the program and where it is at, then why did he leave in the first place?

Uhh?? Was that what I said? I'm pretty sure I said I don't take any stock in his comments. He's said the same thing before about a crappy HC and he's saying the same thing now about an unproven HC that appears to be floundering somewhat. I don't expect Mac to say anything different than what he's saying. I just don't take any stock in it, based on his past comments about Hawk and based on Mac's somewhat vested interest in Embree succeeding.

Hell, we all want Embree to succeed. Whether or not he will is a different matter and I don't need, IMO, Mac blowing smoke up my ass about it.

I just don't think you can ever expect Mac to be remotely objective about Embree's job performance.

Mac, and several of the players from that great era of the late 80s to early 90s, are severely ****ing up their legacies by their involvement in this current failure of a program.

If Mac cares so much about the program and where it is at, then why did he leave in the first place?
His wife was having some pretty serious issues and his daughter was struggling. He felt like he needed to be there for them more than for football.

My point about Mac's "positive thinking" is that he refuses to believe in or ever admit failure. I believe that is where he is coming from with Embree.

That's not positive thinking, that's delusional thinking. Failure happens, to everyone, and one must accept it and learn from it.

So much hate for Coach Mac. What is he supposed to say about Embree publicly?

I'm also not buying into the notion that he was the one who is responsible for the Embo hire. I know he supported Embree, but what did you expect? He'd be saying the same thing about anyone else if they got the job over Embree.

Mac certainly has a ton of influence in the program, but he's not the one who should be receiving the blame for this programs issues. JMHO.
