Jan 6, 2011 - Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott made his first big move as the window to negotiate a new television contract for the conference nears. Scott, who brings a marketing savvy and knowledge of the television landscape, pulled off an impressive deal, securing $25 million for the rights to the first Pac-12 Championship Game, as well as other games in the 2011 season. Fox will televise the events on its flagship station.

This is $2 million+ for CU next year. We needed that with the revenue we're losing.

Also, the Pac-12 Championship will be played on the home field of the higher ranked team. How cool will it be when this thing comes to Boulder? Talk about an event.

FOX has no business broadcasting college games: they ****ing suck at it. But that is a nice chunk of change.

pac 12 championship game plus other games.

Is this a good deal or did we get lowballed?

Has there been some decision on whether CU is receiving ANY Pac-10 money next year??

I do not believe I have ever seen anything definitive on the matter.

I imagine it'd some kind of message to ESPN that if they want Pac12 games in the future they are going to want to give up big money. The Pac10 right now also has a crappy tv contract and has few games on tv. That needs to change to really build the brand nationally. This is just one step.

i figure well get at least 1 game... be it usc here or oregon here... and probably @ utah

The "other games" reflect that Colorado and Utah have joined the conference and that means 18 more regular season conference games. Scott made them pay for the rights to broadcast them. :smile2:

They have no business broadcasting college games if they continue to use their NFL announcers to do college post-season games. If they commit to a very solid number 1 team and maybe try and poach some good ABC/ESPN guys, then they can do it.

Also, they need to make sure none of their cameramen get a boner when they see a trombone.

To me this just signals that the next long-term contract with Fox, ESPiN or whoever is going to be a whopper.

Another thing, but with 2 more mouths to feed on the current contract this was necessary for the upcoming year.

Edit: Utah isn't 100% in their first year, but even so more money is needed and I doubt people want to take a paycut.

I hear Ron "Sweetheart Sweetcheeks" Franklin's available.

The Pac-12 championship game on FOX, plus 6 other football games during the season on FSN of $25 million. That seams like a good deal to me.

No. Article said they'd televise it on their flagship station, which means FOX. Their BCS broadcasts were ****ing awful.

OK thanks, I missed that detail. If it was FSN then that would've been ok but yes, their BCS broadcasts were bad to put it mildly.

Yeah, I don't know why they were fixated on the band. I don't know how many times over the years I've been subjected to BSU's or OU's band. Ugh. Very lifeless and stale. They have some good sportscasters on FSN that are serviceable though.

Actually there is only 9 more regular season games. I'm digging the extra dough, though.

Awesome, I think, but they better get some real announcers. The BCS games that FOX has done in the past have been unwatchable.
