SIAP, but I thought it would be cool to look at Spruce's numbers given the record he broke last week.It really contextualizes what Nelson has given us over the past 3 years:
295 would tie 15th all time.
He needs 14 catches to tie his position coach, Troy Walters. He needs 29 to be the all-time Pac12 leader in receptions.
However, in Pac 12 play last year, Spruce finished with 69 (nice) catches. if he were to duplicate that effort, he'd finish 13th all time. If he kept up that pace for a 10th game, he'd finish with 306 or 307 depending on rounding, 306 would tie him for 6th all time in FBS, and 307 would put him in sole position.
- Spruce is averaging 6.5 catches/game
- There are 9 (possibly maybe 10) games left
- Extrapolating 6.5 catches/game avg. to 9 more games is 58 more catches (rounded down). That would give him 288 career catches (295 with 10 more games)
295 would tie 15th all time.
