Since this season is coming to a close in the next few weeks here is a look ahead to next year.

12/31/2011: Utah
1/5/2012: WU
1/7: WSU
1/12: @ Cal
1/14: @ Stanford
1/19: ASU
1/21: UA
1/26: @ USC
1/28: @ UCLA
2/2: OSU
2/4: OU
2/9: @ UA
2/11: @ ASU
2/18: @ Utah

3/7-3/10 PAC-12 Tournament

The travel partner thing makes a lot of sense now that I see it in terms of travel expensese and times away from classes for the kids.

The way I understand it there are 4 teams we will only play once during the season. This 4 would rotate every year between various schools.
 
oh and women play the opposite schedule. Means every arena will have a game every Thursday and Saturday.
 
Its nice how theres no KU-esque team on there thats almost a guaranteed 2 losses every year
 
just looking at the current standings in the conference. We should easily be top 4 in conference. If Burks stays and we get some improvement from the bench we could have a shot at the title.
 
Oregon btw is killing OSU. That arena is absolutley gorgeous. I wish CU had an arena like that. Even the floor is growing on me the more I watch it. Once you realize its not ur TV screwed up it doesnt look bad.

That makes sense. In fact, it makes so much sense that I have to wonder what the hell the Big 12 is thinking with the scheduling it does.

the saturday/Big Monday turnaround is insane. if you are on Big Monday, means you are playing a good team and you play Sat as well. and odds are, rarely do you play both of those at homes.

you are really victim to the vagaries of scheduling there.

You're kidding right? Even if Burks stays we lose 3 of our top 4 scorers.

have you seen the PAC 10 play this year? There is a reason that there is only one ranked team and only a handful of teams having a successful season. Given how well we have played at times this year in the Big 12 i think we will do just fine. We would lose marcus, corey, and levi. Shannon is showing signs of getting confidence back, burks would be our leader, dufault shows sparks, roberson could be awesome along with mills. Who knows how good/ how much we will get out of recruits. If burks stays we will be alright next year.
 
Arizona is good....Washington plays a fast pace...UCLA is big and always plays good defense...but the Pac 12 will not be as overall tough as the Big XII

And get in three of the top Cali recruits plus Shane Harris-Tunks. I agree with the statement. If Burks stays, I think CU has to be one of the favorites to win the conference next year.

CU ranks #2 nationally in conference strength of schedule right now according to ESPiN (behind St. John's). 8 of the top 10 teams on that list are from the Big XII.

Stanford is the top Pac-10 team on that list. At #62....
 
I really like the travel partner scheme from the standpoint that it will make roadtrips much easier to justify and budget. I love the idea of getting to travel and being able to catch two games in an extended weekend. Personally, I'm circling the Arizona duo in February as a possible trip destination for next year.
 
The schedule looks very favoriable for traveling to games. Here are the trips I see.

Weekend in San Fran.
1/12: @ Cal
1/14: @ Stanford

Weekend in LA
1/26: @ USC
1/28: @ UCLA

Weekend in Arizona
2/9: @ UA
2/11: @ ASU

Weekend in Oregon.
3/1: @ OU
3/5 @OSU

A lot better than the random trips to Waco, then Manhattan, etc.

I'm eager to see our 2011-12 OOC schedule. It is supposed to be more local and more competitive. Unfortunately, we won't see Northern Colorado the next 4 years because Tad doesn't think it's right to play against any of the kids he recruited. Add DU to your list, though.

I wouldn't be surprised to see some Missouri Valley and Big 12 opponents in order to boost our RPI with some home and home series that are pretty good geographically. Also, I'd expect more Big West opponents like San Francisco. For recruiting, I'd love to see us set up a series with DePaul in order to get a trip to Chicago.

And that's exactly what we need more of when it comes to scheduling, games against schools from the other big 6 conferences. Granted DePaul is way down this year but that's not typically the case, and in most years that would be a good non-conference win, and even if we don't win at least it wouldn't drag down our SOS so much.

DePaul is an awful program right now. Public League (inner-city high schools in Chicago) coaches are "boycotting" DePaul in recruiting because they weren't involved in the hiring process for the new coach. They play in a barn way outside of the city, and they have no profile in the region. They're essentially a forgotten mess of a program. Stay away.

If you're desperate to get attention in Chicago, then call the U of I and get a holiday showcase game going for the United Center. They've done it before, and much more people pay attention to the Illini than the forgettable Blue Demons. It would make for an interesting showcase December matchup, and (a definite plus) give me something to do when I'm home for Christmas.
