Buffs better bring their "A game" Friday. Although the Buffs are 5-0 lifetime against the Ducks, the Ducks have improved a lot the last couple years, most recently displayed by them duplicating the Buffs in suffering a tough overtime loss to #12 USC their last game (this past Sunday).
(Like it seems most of the Pac (at minimum the Buffs and Trojans), the Ducks hired (in June 2016) a former Northwestern player as their coach , and have been improving since.)

This is one of the most important matches of the season. With a win already over Stanford, a win today pretty much assures our Buffs of being one of the top seeds in the Pac-12 tourney next month.

Buffs go up 2! TO Ducks.

A couple notes as I've just started watching-
  • Shocking I know, but it's evidently raining heavily in Eugene.
  • Sounds like the fouling (or officiating?) have been a big factor this game, as the announcer said the Buffs had 3 yellow cards the 1st half, all 3 of which the Ducks converted. Meanwhile, the Ducks just had their 1st yellow card called against them. (Buffs didn't technically score with the woman advantage, but scored a few seconds after the penalty ended.)

Thanks for the updates AztecBuff!!

Buffs score another one with a TWO person advantage to go up 10-7, with the 2nd yellow card charged to the Oregon coach (assume for complaining about the 1st yellow.)

Samantha has been amazing tonight. Coming out party for her of sorts. Takes the firepower of this offense to an even higher level. If she can score like this when a team sells out to shut down Darby and Miranda then this team becomes very dangerous for the NCAA tourney.

That was such an important win. Lisella was nails between the pipes in the 2nd half.

I watched most of the 2nd half, and it looked like just a great defensive effort overall, with Ms. Lisella not even having to face many shots, with one or two of those being low quality (via Buff defenders getting their sticks on the shooters sticks as the shots were being made, etc.), until later in the game when she made one or two awesome saves.

Also, Darby Kiernan seemed to win almost every draw control in the crucial 1st part of the 2nd half where the Buffs asserted their authority, so that was obviously key to limit the pressure on the D. (Per live stats, overall the Buffs won the draw control stat 15-10, with Kiernan getting credited with 12 of those.)

Just going through the game tweets, at least a couple new Buff individual records were set this game. Congrats to Ms's. Brown and Kiernan!

"Sarah Brown has recorded the 72nd caused turnover of her career to make her the CU career leader!"
Way to represent Boulder High, Sarah!

Yes, this was an important win for the Buffs. Oregon has a solid team this season.

EUGENE, Ore. – Down 7-6 early in the second half, the 15th-ranked Colorado Buffaloes recorded an 8-2 run to defeat Oregon, 14-9, on Friday night at Pape' Field.

Junior Samantha Nemirov was responsible for five of those eight second-half goals, propelling the Buffs to their fourth win in Pac-12 play. The Buffs are now 7-3 overall and 4-1 in conference play. The Ducks dropped to 4-4 overall and are 2-3 in league competition.
...

KEY STATS: The Buffaloes outshot the Ducks 41-20 and had the edge in draw controls, 15-10. Both teams recorded 11 ground balls and 14 turnovers. Colorado converted on three of its 10 free-position attempts, while Oregon was 1-of-4. Both teams scored three woman-up goals. In total there were seven yellow cards issued in the game, three for CU and four for UO.

NOTABLE:
  • Sarah Brown became the CU career caused turnover leader in the game with her 72nd.
  • CU has scored 14 or more goals in each of their four Pac-12 wins.
  • Three Buffs have scored at least one point in every game this season: Samantha Nemirov, Darby Kiernan and Miranda Stinson.
  • Kiernan, who is already the CU career lead in points, became the CU career goals leader, scoring the 173rd goal of her career to surpass Johnna Fusco's mark of 172.
  • Oregon converted on all three of CU's yellow cards.
  • For the seventh time in CU single-game history, a Buff recorded two woman-up goals as Nemirov scored a pair in the second half. Nemirov is just the fourth Buffs to record the feat.
  • Nemirov scored six goals in the game, which tied for second on CU's single game list.
  • CU is now 6-0 against Oregon.

UP NEXT: Colorado will play its final non-conference regular season game against Denver on Thursday, March 29, at Peter Barton Stadium in Denver, Colo.

QUOTEABLE:
Head Coach Ann Elliott
"Obviously this was not our prettiest game, but I was proud of our second half effort and the fight we showed. We have to do a better job in the start of the game executing on both ends of the field. I thought that in the second half we did a better job of executing, limiting unforced turnovers and causing some turnovers. Overall, every conference game is so important. This is a very well coached Oregon team, so we are happy to be leaving Eugene with a win. And we will look to get refocused and start preparing for Denver before we head into second half of Pac-12 play."

Hope some Front Range- based Allbuffians can make it to Denver this Thursday for the night game (opening draw 7:00 PM) against the #23 Pioneers. Looking like it could have big ramifications for the Buff's NCAA tournament selection chances (assuming, of course, they don't earn the auto-bid via winning the Pac 12 tournament).
