So, maybe the biggest non-conference match of the season against perennial NCAA tournament team BYU is tomorrow, starting at 1:00 MT.

BYU has struggled so far this season. It should be an interesting match. Don't think the Cougars will bunker.

Smoke in the air here in Boulder from a fire in NW Colorado. Wonder if the match will be moved to the IPF?

Let's hope the "if we can score, we win" trend continues.

The match was closer than the score indicates. CU was able to find the back of the net, BYU was stymied. Great job by the Buffs to weather pressure from the Cougars and preserve another shutout!

Congrats again to the team- on setting the scoreless record and the win!

BOULDER - Tatum Barton scored twice as No. 21 Colorado defeated BYU 3-0 on Monday at Prentup Field. The Buffs are now 4-0-2 on the season, while BYU dropped to 0-3-2 after being ranked No. 8 in the preseason top 25.

CU broke the school shutouts records on Monday, extending its streak to 607:58 for minutes and six for consecutive matches. The previous records of 551:54 and five matches were both set in 2013.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Barton set up the first goal of the match in the 23rd minute, heading a cross from Megan Massey to Taylor Kornieck in the center of the box. Kornieck her shot to the low-left corner of the net for an early 1-0 lead.

Barton pushed the lead to 2-0 in the 56th minute with her first career score. Kornieck sent a cross in from the left corner and Barton deflected it in right in front of the net with her right foot.

Barton scored again in the 83rd minute after Becca Rasmussen pushed a pass ahead of the Cougars defense. Barton's shot from inside the top of the box, straight out from the right post, found the upper-right corner of the net.

...

NOTES: The current shutout streak of 607:58 broke the previous school record of 551:54 (set in 2013) and the sixth consecutive shutout broke the previous record of five, also from 2013 ... first-ever win over BYU during the regular season (two previous wins were in the NCAA Tournament) ... first two goals of Barton's career ... Barton had five points (two goals, one assist), marking the 10th time in CU history a player has had at least five points in a match ... the three goals were the most CU has scored against BYU in the eighth all-time meeting between the two schools ... Kornieck's goal was her third game-winner this season and ninth of her career, moving her into a tie for fifth place all time at CU.

Interview with 2 goal scorer Tatum Barton and highlights-

first-ever win over BYU during the regular season (two previous wins were in the NCAA Tournament)
I don't think BYU has been enjoying their recent trips to Colorado, post season and now regular season :sneaky:.

Statistics rarely tell much of the story in soccer. This is particularly true when it comes to defending. Today one of the unsung heroes was Alex Vidger playing as a defensive midfielder, the role Morgan Stanton had the previous two seasons. In this role she was able to frequently break up the BYU attack and effectively distribute the ball. I thought it was the best game of the season for her so far.

The current shutout streak of 607:58 broke the previous school record of 551:54
It's really been a team effort this season. It takes quite a commitment from everyone on the pitch, not just the back line and keeper.

CU travels to Texas for a match Friday at UT and Sunday at UTSA.
