The lacrosse team (9-5, 4-5 in the Pac 12) is scheduled to end their regular conference regular season as they host the Oregon Ducks (3-12, 1-8) at Kittredge Field. As part of the game, assume there will be senior day festivities after the game for what is a LARGE group of 15 (11 "regular" seniors plus 4 who took advantage of an extra "Covid year").

The game is scheduled to be on the Pac 12 Networks. (Links and more info available below.)

BOULDER – 11 seniors and four fifth-year seniors will step onto Kittredge Field for the last time in the Black and Gold when Colorado hosts Oregon on Friday (4 p.m. MT/Pac-12 Networks).

The 15 departing seniors have been through the wringer in their time at CU. The group had to persevere through the tragic death of a teammate, a sudden hospitalization of another teammate and a certain pandemic that has changed the world.

"This is a special group," head coach Ann Elliott Whidden reminisced. "It's been a challenging few years as it has been for everybody across the country. For us in particular, our fifth-year student-athletes [dealt with] going through the loss of a teammate in Julia [Sarcona], going through Aine [Williams] who is in her fifth year now [after] being sick and so unsure of what that situation was. That's hard to come in your freshman year and while things did get easier, they also didn't because then we went into COVID and all the challenges there.

"I think this group has really grown through the challenges and I'm really proud of the way they've individually and collectively grown and added to our team. They have had such a strong impact on the culture of this team."

Oregon (3-12, 1-8 Pac-12) has lost its last six games since a quick two-game win streak towards the end of March. The Ducks have been outscored by a 49-goal differential margin this season and haven't scored more than 12 in the current stretch.

"We still want to win a Pac-12 championship," Elliott Whidden reiterated. "We understand that it's harder than it would have been if we could have been successful last weekend. We have to focus on what we can control and we have a great opportunity in Oregon and a great opportunity in Denver [regulars season finale]. We believe in ourselves and know we can win those games."

For the 15 seniors, Friday offers one last chance for them to make an impact in Boulder.

"We haven't talked about it too much in terms of [the team having a sense of urgency for the seniors] that aspect," Elliott Whidden explained. "I've thrown it back to the group of 15. It's more of a challenge to them of how do they want to end? What do they want to do? and making sure that that group, which is a large group of us, is passing that sense of urgency and belief in themselves down to everybody else. "

Colorado's Senior Day celebration will be held postgame.

Awesome end to the regular season conference slate, as the Buffs get the win 23-12!

Extra cool that I believe the announcer said 2-3 times that various veteran Buffs earned their 1st ever goals.

Now on to a tough game in Denver against the top 10 ranked Pioneers before the Pac tourney begins.

BOULDER – Fifth-year senior Sadie Grozier became the fourth player in Colorado Buffaloes history to record 150 career goals on Friday. She scored game-high five goals as the Buffs beat Oregon 23-12 on Senior Day.

Colorado (10-5, 5-5 Pac-12) had 11 different goal scorers contribute to the season-high 23 goals. The Buffs also had a trio of first-time goal scorers in seniors Macaul Mellor and Sabrina Robbins along with sophomore Madeline Pisani.

"It was a special day for us," head coach Ann Elliott Whidden said. "(The 15 seniors have) been a good crew that's been through a lot and have shown up for this team in the hard times and grown from it. To be able to honor them in this way with a quick start, to see them play for each other and to see our younger players step up and make plays and how excited they were for everybody throughout the day to make plays was great.

"We wanted to get (some of our bench players) in the game and give them that opportunity, and I know that was special to the senior class as well," Elliott Whidden explained.

Grozier joins Darby Kiernan (210 goals), Johnna Fusco (172) and Miranda Stinson (171) as the only Buffs to join the 150-goal club. She added two assists, tying her career-high with seven points on the day.

Seniors Charlie Rudy and Chloe Willard registered hat tricks for the Buffaloes in the winning effort. Willard's first goal of the game was her 50th of the season, adding to the milestone day for the Buffaloes.

"This group is a group that has continued to get better and better," Elliott Whidden remarked. "We had some missed opportunities with COVID and being out, but to see them continue to get better, step up, and have great seasons and a great day today is really special."

Oregon (3-13, 1-9 Pac-12) was led by Shonly Wallace's three goals.

UP NEXT: The Buffaloes travel to Denver next Wednesday to take on the Pioneers at Peter Barton Stadium (7 p.m. MT). Fans can watch the game at cubuffs.com/WatchWLax.

"We've got a tough Denver team that we're playing on Wednesday down there," Elliott Whidden said. "They're one of the top-ranked teams in the country. We know we've got to get better. We got to turn this around, celebrate these (players) here, and then turn this around and start focusing on our next step to get this season extended for these 15 Seniors."
