THE GAME: The University of Colorado plays its final non-conference contest of the season against the Wyoming Cowgirls in Laramie on Monday, Dec. 21 at Arena-Auditorium. Tip off is set for 7 p.m. MST.

ABOUT WYOMING: The Wyoming Cowgirls are 6-3 overall and are winners of three straight games. Wyoming kept its winning streak alive this past Saturday (Dec. 19), defeating Montana State 75-69 at home in its third overtime game of the year.

The Wyoming Cowgirls are averaging just shy of 70 points per game (68.2) and connect on 38 percent of their shots from the field. On defense, they average 5.9 steals, force 15.1 turnovers and hold a +2.6 rebounding margin. The Cowgirls have a trio of players averaging double-figures, led by senior guard and Denver native Marquelle Dent, who is averaging 19.1 points per game to go along with 3.3 rebounds. Freshman forward Marta Gomez and senior guard Jordan Kelley also average 11.0 and 11.2 points, respectively. Kelley is also dominant on the glass, pulling down 9.4 rebounds in each contest.

The Cowgirls own a 4-1 record on their home court this season and on average draw more than 2,500 fans to each game. Head coach Joe Legerski is in his 13th year at the helm for Wyoming and has posted a 238-143 overall record (.625).

THE SERIES: This is will mark the 46th meeting between the Buffaloes and Cowgirls. Colorado is an impressive 36-9 all-time against Wyoming and are 14-7 on the road. The Buffs defeated the Cowgirls 76-71 last season in Boulder to earn its fifth straight win against Wyoming.

I anticipate a very challenging game for the Buffs for a variety of reasons. Let's hope CU is ready emotionally as well as mentally for this one.
If this is a typical Legerski team they will penetrate and then kick for open looks from beyond the ark. Freshman Marta Gomez from Spain has launched a whopping 59 treys thus far hitting 42% of them.

20-12 at the end of 1st qtr, tied 29 all at the half. Buffs had a terrible second quarter. Just terrible. Could not hit the bucket and it wasn't because of Wyoming. CU has 16 offensive rebounds and only 5 second chance points.

Swan is one rebound short of a double double. Without her play in the first half, they'd be way down.

Buffs lose 77-68. Given how the season has gone for them so far this result isn't a surprise.

I was only able to watch the last 6 minutes of the game and despite making a run CU never had a chance. They weren't defending well and on the offensive end they often seemed content to pitch up treys - which they were missing.

If this level of play continues they will finish at or near the bottom of the Pac-12 standings.

Let me first say that I like Coach Lappe a lot. I had the great pleasure of meeting her on a long flight once, and in a relaxed conversation, she seemed like a great woman that cared about CU and her players, even if her demanding style can be hard at times. This was more than a few years ago, but I imagine she still has that passion.

However, just like how many of us, I included, root for HCMM because he seems like a great guy, results don't always come. In a results based business, your demeanor and professionalism only buy you a few years, if that. I hope Coach Lappe gets the girls playing right in conference play, but I would agree that if a change is going to be made, make it soon.

The reason I say this, is that I've always been a huge Jamie Carey fan. I don't follow the women's game very closely, particularly at the HS level, but to this day, Jamie Carey was one of the best HS players I have ever seen. I was more disappointed that she left the state than when Ann Strother went to UConn. Then watching her gut it out at Stanford and Texas was inspiring to witness. She has also proved her ability to coach at least on the HS level.

While I much prefer that the Buffs do extremely well in conference play and make the NCAAs, if that weren't to happen, what do you guys that follow the women's game better think of making Jamie Carey HC? I imagine Lappe finishes the season, having played for Ceal and also just out of general respect, but those things aside, would making Carey interim HC help out with keeping the freshmen and recruits? Does anyone know more about Carey as an asst coach and her ability to recruit and mix with the players? Is Carey rumored anywhere to become an asst at a more prestigious program, or a HC anywhere else?

Hope so. The current team is going to finish last in the Pac 12.

Ceal will try to protect her as Lappe was Ceal's hire. She didn't fit the criteria that search committee had publicly stated. She is only at CU because of Ceal and she is failing more every day.
