So, along with some winter weather, the Oregon schools also come into Boulder this weekend to face the Buffs in the Buffs' last home games of the year. (Wow- these different sport seasons always seem to go so quick when they're nearing the end.) 1st up tonight is a tough challenge- the nationally ranked #7 Oregon State Beavers.

cubuffs.com preview of the game- http://www.cubuffs.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=600&ATCLID=209898596

A little bit about OSU from that preview:

"
...
Oregon State has rolled through every portion of its schedule; its only blemishes came at No. 6 Tennessee, when the Beavers got into foul trouble and committed an uncharacteristically high 19 turnovers, and at Washington, where the Huskies got hot from deep in the second half.

There is no blueprint for beating Oregon State. The Beavers boast the Pac-12’s second-best scoring offense and second-best scoring defense. They lead the conference in field goal percentage (47) and in field goal percentage defense (34). They shoot 38 percent from 3-point range — second in the Pac-12 and eighth in the country — and allow opponents to sink just 26 percent of their treys, which ranks third in the conference. Oregon State has the Pac-12’s best rebounding margin and assist-to-turnover ratio, and it blocks more shots than any other conference team. The Beavers’ average margin of victory is 22 points.

...
When Colorado is clicking, though, it can certainly match Oregon State’s whirring ball movement and sharp cuts; the Buffs will need that crisp passing, constant off-ball movement and old-fashioned physicality to keep Beavers junior center Ruth Hamblin out of the paint. Hamblin is the Pac-12’s leading shot-blocker, and she swats almost four per game.

...Hamblin and guards Jamie Weisner and Sydney Wiese each average around 13 points per game, and they do it with remarkable efficiency.

Hamblin leads the conference in field goal percentage; she makes just shy of 60 percent of her attempts. Wiese is the Pac-12’s top three-point shooter — she hits 46 percent of her treys — and Weisner is fourth at 42 percent. They’re the conference’s most prolific snipers; together they make nearly six treys per game, and last week Wiese set the school record for career 3-pointers made despite being only three-quarters of the way through her sophomore year. She's also second in the conference in assists.

Go buffs! Of course, it's a major challenge to beat #7, but the buffs have put together some good games against the strong Pac teams. 7 pt loss @ Stanford, 8 vs asu.

Buffs down 17-9 midway through 1st half. PG Kressl picked up 2 quick fouls in 1st 4 minutes.

Buffs have it down to a ww-19 deficit with~4 left in the half. They're playing well overall but not shooting well enough overall to lead.

As usual, also questionable officiating from the PAC 12 crew.

Impressive to be tied with #7, mostly without Lexy. Mostly keeping down the turnovers, and doing well working outside-inside

Not looking great now, but not over either. Buffs down 51-41 with ~7:30 left. A few too many easy OSU buckets, and Buffs not shooting well enough.

Buffs worked hard tonight, but had too many empty possessions in the second half to give themselves a shot. Reese scored a ton of points in the first half, but OSU did a good job of pushing her out of the areas where she likes to shoot. Jamee was working to get points, but she hasn't been herself since her ankle injury. Nobody else was able to score consistently. CU didn't commit too many turnovers in this game, but struggled on the boards and missed a lot of shots in the second half (4-23!).

OSU isn't overly athletic, but they are smart and know each others strengths which they play to. I beleive Lexy time was cut done in part because Brecca Thomas was needed to guard Sydney Wiese and she did a pretty good job.

I'm just hoping this team gets a win for Senior Night tomorrow and some fans can get to the game.
