The Buffs get to play one of the most famous names in college basketball as they visit the Kentucky Wildcats for a Sunday matinee game. (I wasn't sure, but it looks like the Kentucky women play in a different place (Memorial Coliseum) than the men (Rupp Arena).)

Should be an extra- exciting game for Buff freshman Alexis Robinson, whose home town of Ashland KY looks to be per Google Maps only a couple hours from Memorial.

THE GAME: The University of Colorado hits the road for the first time this season, traveling to Lexington, Ky. to face the 13th-ranked (AP & USAT) Kentucky Wildcats. Tip off is set for 12 p.m. MST on Sunday, Nov. 22 from Memorial Coliseum.

BROADCAST: Sunday’s game will be available via livestream on WatchESPN, which can be accessed here (based on subscription services): http://es.pn/1WMWMQk. Jeff Piecoro and Christi Thomas have the call.

The game will also be on KVCU 1190 AM. Cory Lopez will have the call and Carol Callan of USA Basketball will provide the color commentary.
...
ABOUT KENTUCKY: The Kentucky Wildcats are ranked No. 13 in both the AP and USA Today polls and are 3-0 on the young season with their most impressive win coming against then-No. 15/15 Arizona State, 68-64 (overtime) on the road.

The Wildcats, coming off their sixth straight NCAA Tournament appearance in 2014-15, are led in the backcourt by junior Makayla Epps, who is averaging 20.5 points, 8 rebounds and 7.5 assists per game.

As a team, Kentucky has averaged 84 points per game, while holding its opponents to 30.3 percent from the field.

Head coach Matthew Mitchell is in his ninth season leading the Wildcats and is Kentucky’s all-time winningest coach with a 197-81 record in Lexington.

(Note- Not at all sure one way or the other, but looks like stream is part of an ESPN/ SEC+ video production, so folks may not be able to access the game if their TV subscription doesn't include the SEC network???)

Radio/ Audio- As noted above, on KVCU 1190 AM in the Boulder area. Also, not sure if it requires a subscription, but Kentucky looks to also have an audio stream available at http://www.ukathletics.com/game-center/55c3c825e4b0959d11be331f/ .

They do play in a different arena, which I've always thought very strange. Memorial looks like a high school gym, but is actually still pretty big.

I think playing in a smaller gym as long as it's well-maintained makes sense. Playing in an arena that seats over 23,000 when you're drawing a few thousand makes for a dead atmosphere. UNC women do the same -- play in Carmichael instead of the Dean Dome.

Interesting about the gym. I too think it makes sense to play in a facility that is size appropriate and it gives the team a sense that they have a home of their own.

As for the game . . . I just hope the Buffs are competitive. They'll need to play significantly better than in the previous two to be so.

I hate that this game is the same time as the men's game.

This one not starting well. After holding it close the 1st half of the 1st quarter (Buffs only down 7-9), UK goes on an 14-0 scoring run that features ~7 Buff turnovers and 0 fer shooting by the Buffs for almost 5 minutes (and only 2-14 for the quarter) - it's 7-23 going into the 2nd quarter.

(Had this in an old incorrect thread originally, so JUST moved it here.)

Buffs being doubled up at the half 21-42.

UK obviously a top team, with the Buffs having common issues from prior years of turnovers (already a bad game's worth at 16 at the HALF) and resulting scoring droughts (no points in last 5 minutes in 1st quarter noted above followed up with going scoreless almost 4 minute to end the half. Buffs also only shooting 33%, while only getting to the FT line 4 times.

Hopefully they keep playing hard in the 2nd half. I guess especially with young guards, turnovers will happen; it will be how quick their learning curve is this year that will be a/ the major determinant on how far the Buffs can go.

Just looking at the live stats, looks like the Buff offense finally comes awake in the 3rd quarter, as they get 21 points and keep the UK lead at 21- down 63-42 heading to the final quarter.

86-61 is the final. Obviously a hard match-up against a top team, and UK was hot in addition (11-18 from 3). Nice to see the Buffs greatly improved holding onto the ball in the 2nd half, only having 5 turnovers after 16 in the 1st. Also looks like shooting will continue to be a Buffs strength this year (wasn't sure after losing the seniors who were great), as the Buffs had another good 3 point shooting day of their own- going 8/14.

Just need to shake this one off and get ready for next week.

This is the type of loss your team can grow from. Frankly, it's also a loss that boosts RPI a lot so it's a good trip for the team all around.

They've got a lot to work on before conference play, but should be able to start banking wins against the remainder of their non-con schedule.

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Freshman Kennedy Leonard paced the Colorado Buffaloes, but in the end No. 13 Kentucky was just too much for the young Buffs, opening up a 16-point first quarter lead and cruising to a 25 point victory, 86-61, here Sunday.

Leonard finished with 15 points and hit double figures in assists for the first time in her young career with 10, also adding six rebounds. She shot 6-of-13 from the field, including 3-of-4 from behind the arc.

Jamee Swan and Zoe Beard-Fails both reached double figures, as well, with 12 points apiece, Swan adding eight rebounds and Beard-Fails five and both coming up with a pair of blocks. Lauren Huggins and Alexis Robinson each hit threes off the bench for the Buffs, Huggins hitting three for nine points and Robinson a pair for six points.

The Buffs did out-rebound the Wildcats, 38-35, but committed 21 turnovers to just 11 for Kentucky. The Wildcats did outscore the Buffs 22-8 on points off turnovers.

Next up for the Buffs is their own Omni Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The Buffs will face Massachusetts Friday at 7:30 p.m. following a match-up between Florida and Ball State at 5 p.m. The consolation (5 p.m.) and championship (7:30 p.m.) games will take place on Saturday.

It seems that turnovers are once again going to be an issue. It's tough to watch this year after year.

Leonard is averaging 7.3 apg, which is 13th best nationally and #1 among Pac 12 players.
