BOULDER — The 15th-ranked Colorado Buffaloes are hitting the road this weekend for their first Pac-12 Conference road trip, which will take them to Los Angeles and Tempe, Ariz. The Buffs will start the trip on Friday, March 16, against No. 12 Southern California, at 4 p.m. MT. Then, they will face Arizona State on Sunday, March 18, at 12 p.m. MT.

HOW TO WATCH: Friday's contest against the Trojans will be broadcast live on Pac-12 Mountain/Los Angeles, while Sunday's game against the Sun Devils will be streamed on Pac-12 Plus. Links to the live stats, as well as the live stream for Sunday's game, are available at CUBuffs.com.

ABOUT THE BUFFS: Colorado is ranked 15th in the IWLCA and NIKE/USL Magazine polls, as well as 14th in the Cascade/Inside Lacrosse media poll. CU is 5-2 this season. The Buffs have won the last four straight games after starting the season 1-2.

ABOUT SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA: USC is ranked 12th in the IWLCA poll, as well as the NIKE/US Lacrosse Magazine poll. The Trojans are also 15th in the Cascade/Inside Lacrosse media poll. USC has a 3-3 record to start the season and is 1-0 in Pac-12 play as the Trojans defeated ASU last weekend. All three of their losses have come against ranked teams. They lost 14-10 to then-No. 2 Stony Brook and suffered a 9-5 loss to then-No. 15 Northwestern. Last week USC also lost in overtime (13-12) to then-No. 4 Boston College.

Kerrigan Miller has a team-best 17 points with 14 goals and three assists. She has also won 18 draw controls and adds 13 caused turnovers. Izzy McMahon is second for the Trojans with 15 points (10g, 5a) and Mauve McMahon is third with 14 (9g, 5a).

Gussie Johns has been the starter all season. She is 10th in the NCAA with an 8.88 goals against average. Johns has recorded a .490 save percentage, which is second in the conference.

THE SERIES: USC has a 4-1 lead in the all-time series against the Buffs. Colorado won the very first meeting on April 11, 2014 (12-11 OT), before falling in the subsequent four games, which includes the 2017 MPSF Tournament Championship game.

ABOUT ARIZONA STATE: In their inaugural season, Arizona State has recorded a 5-2 record to start the season and are 0-1 in Pac-12 play after falling 14-3 to No. 12 USC in Los Angeles.

Vs. ASU (Sunday, Noon MT start)
Live Video
- Free live stream should be available at http://pac-12.com/live/arizona-state-university-2. (Once in awhile, I've found streams scheduled to be on Pac 12 "-2" addresses actually end up on the main streaming channel for a school. Therefore, if the link in the earlier sentence doesn't work, recommend interested folk try http://pac-12.com/live/arizona-state-university .)

Lots of defense early. Buffs with a 3-0 lead. TO with around 13:30 left in the 1st half.

Buff goalie Lisella already with 4 or 5 saves.

All tied at the half 3-3.

Buff offense doing NOTHING with no goals (and hardly any shots) in the last 21+ minutes of the half. Goalie Lisella (along with of course defensive support) keeping the Buffs in it.

Kiernan and company thankfully doing great in draws (believe Buffs up 6-1 in that stat) to limit USC's offensive opportunities, as the Trojans looking much more dangerous when they DO get settled. Conversely, Buffs having trouble holding onto the ball, and are down 12-5 in the turnover stat.

Trojans get their 3rd in a row to go up 5-6. Get their 1st lead of the day at the 15:09 mark.

TO USC with 12:35 left and still with the 5-6 lead. (Right before the timeout, Kiernan had a point blank free position shot off a free position opportunity and no defenders around, but can't convert off USC's top goalie.)

Another timeout by usc with 6:15 to go and I assume a free position shot upcoming. Still 5-7.

usc gets the win on their 1st overtime opportunity on what looks like a trojan mis-pass that still leads to a lucky but athletic tip-in for the trojans.

Great game to watch. Buffs with a great effort, and just need to get ready for asu on Sunday.

Congrats to the team!

QUOTEABLE:
Head Coach Ann Elliott

"I'm happy with our effort today. I thought we played hard all over the field and especially in between the 30s. Friday was a tough loss for us and we responded today and took a step forward. We know we need to keep getting better every day and every game. Our conference games are so crucial, so we are excited to get the win today.

Box score - http://cubuffs.com/boxscore.aspx?path=wlax&id=11178

(Be interesting to see if the Buffs fall in the rankings after the USC loss. Since the trojans were a higher ranked team, and it was an overtime loss, the Buffs probably SHOULDN'T move at all. However, losing to better ranked teams DID seem to lead to lower rankings for volleyball at least a couple times this past season, so be interesting to see if lacrosse has the same dynamic going on.)

Looks like the team was able to largely stay at the same ranking (just down one spot in one poll).
