Men's bball (5-2) begins a 5 game homestand (which ends with the conference opener against ISU at the CUEC on 12/30) with a match-up with the Pacific Tigers (5-4) tomorrow evening, followed up with an often challenging tilt against the CSU Rams (4-3) next Saturday (12/7) night.

Of course, it's probably largely worthless given changes to almost all teams from one season to the next, but in the latest NET rankings I could find (dated 3/17/24, so before the NCAA and other post-conference tourneys) for last season, CU was at #25, Pacific #359 and CSU #36. (Pacific had the 4th worst NET in D1 last season, but having already exceeded that season's 4 wins, looks like they're heading on up.)

Both games are scheduled to be streamed on ESPN+ for those with a subscription to that paid subscription service. (Further info and links for media options available near the bottom of this post.)

Go Buffs!!!

THE BUFFALOES: Colorado is 5-2 overall after placing sixth at the 2024 Maui Invitational. A thrilling 73-72 win over then-No. 2/2 ranked UConn on the tournament's second day (Nov. 26) highlighted the trip for the Buffaloes who eventually fell to No. 5/5 Iowa State 99-71 in the consolation final (fifth place game) on Nov. 27 to round out the event with a 1-2 record. ...
...

ABOUT THE TIGERS: Pacific is 5-4 overall and has won its last two, including a 64-55 home win over Cal State Fullerton on Nov. 30, a team the Buffaloes defeated by 30 (63-53) on Nov. 13. The Tigers have yet to win a true road contest this season with an 0-3 record. Pacific is averaging 73.8 points while shooting 45.8 percent from the field. The Tigers have been a solid rebounding team, ranking in the top 45 in the nation in both rebounding margin (+8.4, 40th) and rebounding average (40.6, 45th). Defensively, the Tigers allow 68.6 points while a opponents are shooting 40.2 percent. Pacific has been stingy on the perimeter, allowing only 27.0 percent from 3-point range, the second-best mark in the West Coast Conference.

Junior guard Elijah Fisher and senior forward Elias Ralph share the scoring lead for the Tigers each at 17.3 points per game. Both have been solid shooters, with Ralph hitting 55.8 percent and Fisher right behind at 51.0 percent. Ralph leads the Tigers in rebounding at 7.9 per game and has four double-doubles on the young season. Junior guard Lamar Washington is one of the nation's leaders in assists, ranking fifth in total assists (63) and ninth in assist-average (7.0 apg).

THE SERIES: This will be the first meeting between Colorado and Pacific in men's basketball. The Buffaloes last met a West Coast Conference opponent almost one year ago with a 91-66 decision over Pepperdine on Dec. 3, 2023. Excluding Washington State and Oregon State, which joined the WCC this season for basketball, the Buffaloes are 24-14 all-time against other WCC members.

Rick George presented the ball from Coach Boyle's 300th win to him.

Tad has some big balls.

Buffs repeatedly drive too deep in their offensive set, and then get stuck, needing to make a 20 foot pass back out. Nobody is a willing, aggressive finisher at the rim. I know it doesn’t fit Tad’s style, but they desperately need a scorer.

I feel like someone in Oregon somewhere got ahold of a necklace belonging to an extra-terrestrial cat and is willing each CU shot to miss while staring at an old black and white TV.

4/17 from 2pt range and getting outrebounded.

We're outshooting them from 3.

In sum: Pacific wants it more.

Understand Captain America GIF

Baskin is missing a lot of bunnies but he's doing everything else right

Very confused why Carrington continues to get the minutes he does. Good kid but he's too stiff for the Big 12, would rather Diop or Rancik get his minutes

Rancik barely knows which end of the court to be on

Victory

6-2

Enjoy this

There's probably going to be a lot of losing ugly this year, so if you're miserable watching us win I can't imagine you're going to enjoy the next 3 months
Just make sure to never wager on the Buffs before halftime, you lose value that way.

(Or bet against the Buffs if that’s your thing)
