The (RV) lacrosse team (3-0,, 0-0 in the Pac 12) are scheduled to continue their season with their last 2 games before conference play starts, both scheduled for Kittredge Field. They begin by hosting the Vanderbilt Commodores (3-0 overall, 0-0 in the AAC) tomorrow, and follow up by playing old MPSF conference opponent UC- Davis (2-0) on Sunday.

With their ranking (I assume mainly earned so far by their beating then #12 Notre Dame a couple weeks ago), the Commodores look be the Buffs toughest opponent so far this season.

Both games are scheduled to have live streaming coverage. (Link available below.)

BOULDER — The Colorado lacrosse team wraps up a three-game homestand this week with a pair of contests against nonconference opponents.

The Buffaloes face their first ranked opponent of the season in No. 16 Vanderbilt on Friday, March 4, at 2 p.m. It is just the second time the two programs will face off and is the first time the Commodores will play in Boulder.

Then on Sunday, March 6, CU plays host to former Mountain Pacific Sports Federation rival UC Davis. That contest is set for a 1 p.m. opening draw and will be the sixth time the two programs play; the third in Boulder. Both games are scheduled to be played at Kittredge Field.

Both games will be streamed Pac-12+. Thad Anderson will provide play-by-play and color for Friday's game, while Brad Thompson will take over those same duties for Sunday's contest. The link to the streams, as well as live stats, is available at CUBuffs.com.

BOULDER – Chloe Willard and Morgan Pence tallied four goals apiece as the University of Colorado lacrosse team added a ranked win to its early-season résumé Friday, defeating the 16th-ranked Vanderbilt Commodores, 18-11, at Kittredge Field.

Willard scored a three straight goals in the third quarter, marking her fourth career hat-trick. Her third gave the Buffs a 14-8 lead with 3:49 left in the quarter. She totaled four goals for the game, all in the second half.

Pence tallied her first career hat trick in the win. She had two goals in each half to go along with two assists in the game for a career-high six points, which tied for the game-high with Willard who also had two assists.

The Buffaloes and Commodores traded goals early in the game, reminiscent of the back-and-forth affair the teams played in Nashville last year. However, the Buffaloes used their offensive prowess to go on a 6-1 run in the second quarter, which gave them a 10-5 advantage. Six different players scored goals for Colorado during the run.

"I thought offensively we did a great job of moving the ball," head coach Ann Elliott Whidden said. "We did a great job of just being aggressive when it was our time to be aggressive. I'm proud of (the players) for being ready for their moments and finishing their opportunities. It's a group that I think keeps gaining a little bit of confidence game-by-game and gaining that experience. I thought it showed today."

Vanderbilt scored three consecutive goals to cut CU's lead in the game to 10-8. However, Charlie Rudy's 100th career goal with 8:29 left in the third quarter, along with Willard's hat trick, had the Buffs in good position for the win. Vanderbilt could not get closer than within five goals of the Buffaloes after the 4-0 run.

Rudy recorded her 20th career hat trick, scoring a goal with 11:41 left in the fourth quarter to give CU a 15-9 lead. The Buffaloes never looked back after that.

The Buffaloes are now 4-0, while the Commodores are 3-1 overall.
...

MILESTONES: Along with Charlie Rudy's 100th goal, 5th-year senior Sadie Grozier recorded her 150th career point in a CU uniform. She got the point on a goal with 4:35 left in the second quarter to give Colorado an 8-5 lead. It was her second goal of the game.

"I think those two players for us are key players and great players," Whidden said. "I think today was about the team win overall, and they knew that too. It's exciting and I'm proud of them for reaching that, they put in a lot of work and a lot of effort. They were team-first today."

NOTEWORTHY: Colorado had eight different goal scorers in the game, including seven different players that scored goals
in the first half.

UP NEXT: Colorado hosts UC Davis (2-1) Sunday, March 6, before starting the Pac-12 Conference season with three road contests against USC (March 11), Arizona State (March 13), and Oregon (March 18)

For anyone thinking of attending tomorrow's game- it has been moved to the IPF due to anticipated weather. (Thankfully, looks like there will still be a video stream.)

"

It's 12-4 Buffs at the half.

Aside from Ms. Rudy's 5 (she "only" got 1 goal the 2nd quarter), the other 7 Buff goals have been scored by 6 different players.

2nd half beginning now.

A tough 3rd period for the Buffs has made this one "interesting" as their lead is down to 5 after being outscored 1-4 for the 15 minutes.

Some of it wasn't that pretty in the 2nd half (UCD got 2 quick goals early in the 4th to lower the lead to 3 before CU stabilized things some), but the Buffs stay undefeated after a 17-13 win today over a solid Davis team!

Go Buffs!

BOULDER – The University of Colorado lacrosse team received goals from 11 players in a 17-13 victory Sunday over UC Davis at the Indoor Practice Facility.

After UC Davis opened with an early goal from Alex Agnew, the Buffaloes reeled off eight straight to take control of the game, as they led 8-1 with 11:41 remaining in the second quarter.

The teams would trade goals the rest of the second quarter as the Buffaloes took a 12-4 halftime lead. They outshot UC Davis 26-10 in the first half, including a 16-8 advantage in shots on goal.

"An exciting part, especially in the first half, is (that) we had a lot of (players) step up and play hard and play well offensively," head coach Ann Elliott Whidden said.

UC Davis found their footing in the second half, as they went on a 6-1 run. The CU lead was cut down to 13-10 with 11:18 remaining in the game.

"We let down a little bit in that third quarter," Whidden said. "We got a little tired. We got a little emotional and you can't do that. You give too much (energy) to the other team."

The Buffaloes found a way to close out the game as they got two important goals in a 68 second span to retake a 15-10 lead. UC Davis would not get closer than four goals after that, as Colorado won its fifth straight game to start the season.

"I'm proud of this team," Whidden said. "We found a way to win. We're 5-0 in non-conference. We're heading into conference (play) and nothing's going to get easier, so we've got to get better from this. Hopefully, we can watch some film and figure out the ways we need to get better."

The Buffaloes improved to 5-0, which is their second best start to the season in program history. UC Davis is now 2-2 overall.
...

TOP STAT: Charlie Rudy led the Buffs with five goals, four of which came in the first quarter. She recorded her 21st career hat trick in the victory.

NOTEWORTHY: The Buffaloes' 5-0 start is their second-best start in program history (11-0 in 2017).

UP NEXT: The Buffaloes start Pac-12 play with a three-game road trip against USC (March 11), Arizona State (March 13), and Oregon (March 18).

"
BOULDER — For the first time this season, the Colorado lacrosse team has found itself ranked in both lacrosse polls. The Buffaloes are 23rd in the IL Women/IWLCA Division I and 19th in the USA Lacrosse Magazine Polls.

The Buffs have received votes in both polls for the last three weeks but finally broke into the rankings after upsetting then-No. 16 Vanderbilt, 18-11, on March 4 in Boulder. CU finished the weekend sweep and improved to 5-0 with a win against UC Davis (17-13) on March 6. This is the second-best start in program history for the Buffs. The best start was in 2017 when CU started 11-0.

Boston College is the top team in both polls this week and North Carolina is second in both as well. Both have recorded 6-0 starts this year.

Colorado is one of two Pac-12 teams in the IL Women/IWLCA Poll this week as Southern California (3-0) is ranked 17th while Stanford (1-4) is receiving votes. The Trojans are also 17th in the USA Lacrosse Magazine Poll.
