As usual for me- looking back as they are ending, seasons always seem to have flown by, and the last home games of the season have arrived for the WBB Buffs. Hope some folks (esp. living in the area) can make it out to one or two of the games, with Friday's game including honoring Ceal Berry's for her HOF honor, while Sunday is senior day for great Buffs Zoe Correal and Brecca Thomas.

Preview (including interviews with the senior Buffs)-

BOULDER – Colorado's women's basketball team will say goodbye to two seniors this weekend and Zoe Correal and Brecca Thomas are set to play the final two home games of their careers. The two have both been at CU for four seasons and have left their mark on the program.
...

THIS WEEKEND
CU will host Washington at 7 p.m. on Friday and Washington State on Sunday at 12 p.m. Sunday's game will be televised on Pac-12 Networks. Both games will air in the Denver and Boulder areas on 630 KHOW with Cory Lopez calling the action.

PROMOTIONS
Friday's game against Washington is CU's annual Buffs Beat Cancer game. Fans wearing pink will receive $5 general admission tickets and the first 500 fans will receive a free pink t-shirt. Free tickets will be available for breast cancer survivors as well (contact the ticket office for more information at 303-492-8337). It's also $1 hot dog night.

Ceal Barry will also be honored during the game for her selection to the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2018 earlier this week.

Sunday's game against Washington State is Senior Day for Correal and Thomas as both will be honored before tipoff. It is also Military and First Responder Appreciation Day as military members and first responders can receive four free tickets to the game.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
The Huskies are currently in last place in the Pac-12 and are 7-18 overall and 1-13 in conference action. The Buffs won the meeting in Seattle earlier this season 66-61 on Jan. 7, rallying from a 13-point deficit. That win snapped a nine-game losing streak in the series.

Sophomore guard Amber Melgoza leads the Huskies and is fifth in the Pac-12 in scoring at 17.4 points per game. She is the only UW player averaging double figures. Mai-Loni Henson, a 6-1 sophomore, is second at 9.6 points per game. Jenna Moser, one of two active seniors on the team, averages 9.3 points.
...

Washington ranks 10th in the Pac-12 in scoring (67.8) and 12th in scoring defense (75.3).

Washington State enters Friday's game at Utah 10-16 overall and tied with the Buffs at 3-11 in the Pac-12. One of those three conference wins came at the hands of the Buffs on Jan. 5 as WSU earned an 89-75 win in Pullman behind 36 points from Borislava Hristova.

The 6-foot sophomore from Bulgaria is second in the Pac-12 in scoring at 18.8, including 20.7 per game in Pac-12 games. She is shooting 45 percent from the floor and was 15-for-21 vs. the Buffs on Jan. 5

Cannot lose tonight. Winning both would be great but WSU tough. Hopefully, we don't let their star go off again.

48-35 Buffs at the half. CU shooting well and not committing too many turnovers.

KL also has 8 points, 3 steals and only 1 turnover. She’s played all 20 minuets.

Robinson with 13 points and 6 rebounds. Hollingshed with 11 points, 3-4 from deep.

62-44 Buffs at end of 3rd. Robinson with a trey near end of quarter for 18 points. Knight with injured right shoulder.

Congrats Buffs (and of course hope Ms. Knight's injury isn't major)!

BOULDER – Kennedy Leonard had her seventh career double-double with 14 points and 13 assists, and Alexis Robinson scored 18 points as Colorado cruised past Washington 76-56 on Friday night at the Coors Events Center. CU snapped three-game losing streak to improve to 13-13 this season and 4-11 in the Pac-12, while the Huskies lost their seventh straight game to drop to 7-19 and 1-14.

STAT LEADERS: Leonard shot 5-of-9 from the floor and committed just two turnovers. She also had six of CU's 12 steals, tying a season high, and helping the team to its highest steal total since Jan. 5 on the road against Washington.

Robinson shot 7-of-15 and had six rebounds and four assists. Mya Hollingshed poured in 14 points off the bench, burying four 3-pointers and shooting 5-of-6 from the floor. Zoe Correal and Quinessa Caylao-Do each had eight points. Aubrey Knight pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.
...

KEY STATISTICS: CU put together its most dominant game statistically in Pac-12 play this season. CU shot 51.8 percent from the floor, its highest field goal percentage in a Pac-12 regular-season game since 2015. Defensively, the Buffs held Washington to just 36.4 percent shooting.

CU also forced 20 turnovers with 12 steals, while committing only 16. The Buffs also outrebounded the Huskies 33-28.

NOTES: Leonard broke the CU record for assists in a quarter with seven in the first (she held the previous record of five) and assists in a half with 10 in the first half (previous was nine, done three times, by Whitney Law in 2005, Lexy Kresl in 2014 and Leonard in 2015) ... Leonard accounted for 25 of CU's 29 points in the first quarter between points and assists, and 33 of the team's 48 first-half points ... Leonard's double-double was the seventh of her career and her 13 assists tied a career high ... CU's 29 points in the first quarter and 48 points in the first half were both season highs for any quarter or half in Pac-12 play this season ... CU's .518 FG percentage was its highest in a Pac-12 regular-season game since shooting .579 vs. UCLA on 1/11/15 ... CU outscored UW in all four quarters, the first time since Dec. 31 vs. Arizona.

POSTGAME QUOTES:
JR Payne, head coach
General
"We have worked so hard, we have played so well, we have gotten so much better, and I'm beyond happy for all of our players to finally get that reward. Like I said, we've been playing good basketball, we've gotten so much better and so much more confident, we just haven't had the reward of a victory. I'm thrilled to finally have that reward, we're going to enjoy it tonight and get back to work tomorrow."

On up and down tempo in first half, and whether pushing the pace was part of the game plan
"We love to push tempo whenever we have the opportunity to. We really felt like this game would be an opportunity for us to push tempo and be aggressive in transition. I think our team really bought into that and everybody went out there and executed. Kennedy obviously as our point guard, but Lexi [Robinson] was pushing the ball, Quinessa [Caylao-Do] was pushing the ball, Brecca [Thomas] was pushing the ball, so it was a great team effort."
...

On Aubrey Knight's injury
"She came back (to the sideline) and was smiling and laughing and that's kind of her nature, is to stay upbeat and positive. We're hoping that she can play this weekend of course, and if not she'll be the same upbeat, positive spirit she always is."

Got the W against a team they had to beat. Now on to Sunday and the Cougs. Utah beat the Cougs last night. Must beat the Cougs to put a game separation between the two teams going in to next week.

Per radio broadcast, Knight and Curtis are both out with injuries today. Knight was injured in Friday's game and will have an MRI tomorrow. Curtis is on concussion protocol.

Very short bench for the Buffs today.

We needed that one! Basketball Gods with us today. Great way too end home schedule with a sweep. Cayla-Do stepped up with her best game. Happy for the two SRs to win today.

Team played as good of a game as they played all season. Jank stepped up big time with Knight out.

Shows what balanced scoring does for a team. So many assists and outscored Washington State 21-8 on second-chance points.

Just wished they would have shot the 3 better. :D Next weekend for that!

Congrats to the team!

BOULDER -- It came down to the wire, but the Colorado Buffaloes managed to pull out a 72-69 victory on Sunday over the Washington State Cougars to send seniors Zoe Correal and Brecca Thomas off on a high note in their last game at Coors Events Center.

Correal took full advantage of her last moments in Coors, as after a corner three from Cougar guard Celena Molina tied the game 67-67 with 1:17 to play, Correal connected on arguably her biggest basket of the season on a lay-in off a beautiful wrap-around find from junior Alexis Robinson with :51 to play. Her finish regained the Colorado lead and forced the Cougars into the foul game for the remainder of Sunday's contest.

It was a game to remember for Correal, who recorded nine points and a game-high 14 rebounds--one shy of her all-time high recorded last season at Cal--to help the Buffs win back-to-back games for the first time since December 21st.

Junior Kennedy Leonard iced the game down the stretch by going three-for-four from the line to allow the Buffs to hold the lead, but the Cougars still managed to get a last-second corner look from Pinelopi Pavlopoulou that came up just inches short of forcing overtime on Sunday.

Robinson and Leonard each tallied a game-high 15 points for the Buffs, while Pavlopoulou and Alexys Swedlund combined for 26 points and six three-point field goals to keep the Cougars close for the duration of the game.

What's Next?
The Buffs will go for three wins in a row next Thursday when they travel to Los Angeles to take on No. 7 UCLA (9 p.m., P12N).

Highlights-

Press Conference-

Was out of town the lat couple of days so I missed the game - wish I could have been there in person today as it may very will have been the last home game till November.

Heard from a friend that Hristova got injured in the first half. And I figured Knight wouldn't play either. She looks to have some level of shoulder dislocation that could keep her out for the rest of the season.

It seems like it's been a while since Jank hit for double figures. Any thoughts on what was different today?

Looks like the Buffs won with rebounding and free throw shooting. With only 12 turnovers.

Rebounding was a big key. Balanced scoring. If Zoe makes one more FT, all 5 starters go for double figure points. Only 8 total asst and most by one player was 2. Cayla-do and Jank stepped up. That was bigges difference. Their star did go out early. I'm not going to feel bad about that though with us missing bunn for so long. She will be ok. Looked like she rolled her ankle.

According to the radio pre-show, Knight will have an MRI today. He said she had a dislocated shoulder.

I'm thinking Jank knew they had to have her step up since Knight was out. Jank was challenged by the coaches and she rose to the challenge.

I don't like seeing players get hurt on either team.
