Assuming no last minute changes (per the below tweet, looks like the team was able to depart yesterday), the Buffs will start the conference season with what has become the hardest road trip in the conference, facing off against the 2 ranked Oregon teams this weekend, starting with a 3:00 PM (Mountain Time) matinee this afternoon against the #10 Ducks.

Video Coverage for both games is on the Pac 12 Networks. (See below for more detail.)

Note - Assuming all goes as planned, the Buffs will be the conference opener for both schools, as the Beavers' game against Utah, originally scheduled for today, has been moved out to Tuesday due to Covid-19 concerns within the Utah program.

Go Buffs!!!

Preview for Oregon -

"
EUGENE, Ore. – Whether it's in front of 10 thousand screaming fans or an empty gym, the Colorado women's basketball team got handed no favors when the Pac-12 Conference announced its league schedule. Right off the bat, the Buffaloes are set to take on the defending Pac-12 Champion Oregon Ducks on Friday (3 p.m. MT).

Colorado (2-0) enters the second week of the season, preparing for a pair of road tests against two of the top teams in the conference. The Ducks are No. 10 in the AP poll, while Sunday's opponent, Oregon State, is ranked No. 17.

"It will be a different environment I think," head coach JR Payne predicted. "They maxed out on about 11 thousand last year and that's a lot of people. I think it will be a different environment. They [Oregon] are a different ballclub, but still a really good basketball team."

In seasons past, Colorado would have had 10 or 11 non-conference games under its belt before jumping into the Pac-12 gauntlet. This year CU got to face Western Colorado and Air Force, picking up two convincing wins before shifting focus to league play.

"I don't think it's a challenge to compete," Payne continued. "I think we have enough veterans and impact players to compete. It is a challenge to play any Pac 12 team this early in the season, but it's the same challenge for every single team we're getting ready to play. They also only played two or maybe three preseason games. I think you know we're all in the same boat. We've all had a disjointed spring, summer and fall. I really preach to our team, the most important things we can do are stay healthy and have fun. There aren't a lot of teams that can do both of those things right now. We want to play great basketball, of course, but I think that staying healthy and having fun as a player are two crucial aspects right now in the during a pandemic and trying to do what we're doing."
...

The new-look Ducks began the season with wins over Seattle U and Portland. The team is playing without Sabrina Ionescu and Satou Sabally, the first and second overall picks in the WNBA Draft, for the first time in four years. Their replacements seemed to be waiting in the wings. Taylor Mikesell is one of three Ducks to average double-figure scoring in two games (19.5). Erin Boley and Sedona Prince were both selected Preseason All-Pac-12 and Taylor Chavez, the league's reigning Sixth Player of the Year, also returns for 2020-21.

The No. 10 Ducks sill stand as a tall challenge, but it is something the Buffs are looking forward to this time around.

"Knowing that we didn't lose that many players and they lost their best three, I think it's important to know that we're hitting them early for a Pac-12 game but just as much as we are still coming together as a team. So are they. I think we have the potential to win," Finau expressed.

Game time is set for 3 p.m. MT on Friday. The game will be televised on the Pac-12 Network and can also be heard on the Colorado Radio Network with the TuneIn app.

they have to do a better job on foul shooting and 3 point shooting. Not playing horrid, but have to shoot better to beat good teams

53-82 is the final.

As the tweet stated in my post #4, the Buffs had a 10-0 advantage in 2nd chance points in the 1st half. At the end of the game, the Ducks had a 14-19 advantage overall in that stat.

As the announcers noted late, Sherrod and Hollingshed will need to be keys for the Buffs to succeed. Combined today they only scored 8 on 4-18 shooting. They, and the rest of the team, will just need to shake this one off and get ready for the Beavers.

People that pay attention more than me, why isn't Maura Singer playing at all?

Don't know if she has an update (???), but @buffgal posted the following in July in the general 2020 WBB thread (https://www.allbuffs.com/threads/20...l-off-season-news-thread.144021/#post-2899299):

"
In case someone has not heard, Maura Singer suffered another ACL towards the end of the season. She had ACL surgery. It was considered elective surgery so she had to wait to get it.

She is not expected to play this season.

That's correct. Maura is again out for the year with an ACL.

I believe Sophie Gerber is also and Tayanna Jones, at least for now. Jones has not received a waiver after her transfer from Georgetown.

There is no excuse for the free throw shooting.

Sadly, Oregon is a much better team than Colorado. Oregon had the #1 recruiting class and it shows.

It was an improvement from last year but the team has had issues shooting the ball all 3 games. Did not see this game but if it was like the first two, way too many bad 3 point shots taken. I hope for a NIT invite but am not holding my breath after the first 3 games. Oregon in Eugene is a tough opener and now another top team, we shall see how they bounce back.

I disagree. This is an experienced team “that did not show up”. The Ducks are good, but very young. We returned 80% of our starters and are no longer able to claim “young and inexperienced”. I hope this team is as good as the hype but I’m very concerned

The Buffs got it down to 5 early in the 3rd, but then the #17 Beavers pull away at home with an 11 point run right after that. Looking at live stats, looks like the deficit stayed around that for the Buffs until the end.

Best thing J.R. said in the post game was that the buffs shot way to many 3pt shots. They were at the best when they went inside. I could not agree more.

from what I have seen this season, I think a lot of the reason the shooting is down is their shot selection is bad. Too many no pass or 1 pass and quick 3

I do think that is true but that does not excuse the poor free throw shooting. Nothing excuses poor free throw shooting. That is something each one of them should have been working on at home or wherever they were when they got sent home in March.

Good teams don't shoot free throws the way we do and this has been a problem for years.

Well, they did get better. Friday FT % was 41.7 Yesterday was 66.6% Now if they can get it up a bit more, say around 75% and keep it there. Then I can just harp on their ugly field goal %.

IMO Team has taken a big step back. We’ve actually gotten less athletic in the last 2 years and shooting has gotten worse. And as per leadership, I don’t see anyone like Haley Smith, Lauren Huggins or Kennedy Leonard modeling expectations and self accountability. It looks like it’s gonna be a long season.

Somebody on FB commented it's a selfish team and it shows in the number of shots and lack of assists. I think that person is right.

I hope Taylor Simpson realizes another woman named Taylor Simpson left some big shoes for her to follow.

That could be. Not watching tonight because I am not paying DU for the game but still low shooting percentage and better but not great ft shooting. There is no reason a team can't shoot over 75% ft. Hope they come back but seems like a lack luster effort

Looks like the Buffs had a nice comeback over the 1st half of the 4th quarter to tie it up, then it went back and forth before CU lost a 1 point heartbreaker. (Per Livestats, looks like DU secured the win by making 2 free throws with 3 seconds left.)

Trying to remain positive, but I do not see this team being a NIT team. Not enough non conference games to balance out all the conference losses imo. I guess we shall see with Utah next.

I did shell out the $10. There was no excuse for the foul by Aubrey Knight with 3 seconds left. She is not a freshmen. Of course the DU player swished the free throws and CU lost.

Utah upset Oregon State last night.

I now think we will finish last in the Pac 12,
