The Buffs (8-9, 6-8, #57 in the NET rankings) head to the Pacific Northwest for scheduled games this weekend, Friday against the Cougars (9-9, 7-9, #39 NET) and Sunday against the Huskies (511, 2-11, #94 NET).

Both games are scheduled to be streamed live by the home schools.

(Note - per page #69 of CU's Media Guide (https://cubuffs.com/documents/2020/12/29//7.pdf?id=20461), it looks to me like, if the Buffs can win any of their last 3 scheduled regular season games (which would be their 7th Pac 12 victory (although I'm sure they're hoping for 9)), it will be the most conference wins by a CU team since the 13-5 record Linda Lappe and team earned back in the 2012-13 season. (The last winning conference record before that was an 11-5 mark earned by one of Ceal Berry's teams during the 2003-04 season (her 2nd to last as a coach).))

Go Buffs!!!

PULLMAN, Wash. — The Colorado women's basketball team hits the road for its final three scheduled contests of the season, starting with Washington State on Friday (1 p.m. MT). The final stretch will take CU to Washington and then Utah, before embarking on Las Vegas for the Pac-12 Tournament.

Colorado (8-9, 6-8 Pac-12) knows it will have to pick up some wins down the stretch, starting with Cougars. Historically, Pullman has not been kind to the Buffs, owning a 1-8 record. CU's lone win at Beasley Coliseum came back on Jan. 7, 2012, with the Buffs narrowly escaping WSU, 57-56.

"I don't know what it is [about Pullman]," head coach JR Payne tried to explain. "We are determined to make this a great trip. It's always cold, dark, rainy and gloomy. I don't know if that has anything to do with it. We had a good practice today and we are very focused on Washington State. Both teams look a lot different now than the first time we played (Jan. 3). It will be a tough game, but we have learned a lot since then."

Washington State (9-9, 7-9 Pac-12) sits a game ahead of the Buffs in the Pac-12 standings. WSU got the upper hand in the previous meeting, picking up a 76-63 win in Boulder. Krystal Leger-Walker scored 25 points for the Cougars, while her younger sister, Charlisse, recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 assists.

"Everyone knows how great the Leger-Walker sisters are," Payne added. "But it's not just them. They have a lot of good pieces around them. Those two just happen to be pretty special."
...

The final stretch of the season doesn't get any easier. Colorado will hit Washington on Sunday (3 p.m. MT) and then close the season at Utah (Feb. 28). Seattle and Salt Lake City haven't been any kinder CU than Pullman has. The Buffs are 3-8 vs the Huskies on the road and 5-11 against the Utes.

CU has wins over both schools this season. The Buffs opened the New Year with a 60-50 win at home over the Huskies and CU ran away from Utah to open Pac-12 play in Boulder, 80-50.

"We need to be really dialed in," Payne continued. "You can play great basketball in this league and still not win because your opponents are all so good. Again, we just need to prioritize and put the focus on ourselves. If we handle our business, make free throws down the stretch, play the scout correctly, execute offensively, then you let the chips fall where they may. But the goal is to play great focused basketball."

Both games this weekend will be live-streamed on CUBuffs.com/WatchWBB. Fans can listen across the Colorado Radio Network online at CUBuffs.com/listen.

Game notes - Not available as I type this.

Today volleyball does conflict with WBB. The match starts at 1:30 PM MT. At least the match is being televised so I can record it and watch later.

It seems that the emergence of Formann (okay, not in this game, but in general) on offense along the the steady play of Finau at point guard and of course Holligshed can score in a variety of ways. She seems to be gaining confidence over the course of the season.

The team still has problems with free throws. That could have cost them this game.

There is some video of the team getting Coach T with a huge snowball. They dropped it from above and it fell on top of his head.

Can you post a link to that video? I've seen one where the team was throwing snowballs at JR and she returned fire but not the one of T.

It's on Instagram and it's on Coach Earl's account. It's one of the ones that disappears in 24 hours. Maddie B got Coach T good! Lots of snow on him. He was a good sport.

I don't know how to link to the disappearing videos. I'm sorry.

Again today the WBB game and the VB match are at the same time. Recording VB to watch later and will watch the live stream of WBB.

Buffs went through a rough patch that saw the lead get down to 2, but kept ahead and actually won it from the line late, as they (mainly Mya) made their last 8 from the line (all with less than 2 minutes to go) to get the win 55-50.

With their now 4 game winning streak, they've hit .500 (8-8) in conference play!

Congrats to them!

Mistimed things and missed all but the final 50 seconds or so. The game was effectively decided at that point. Sounds like UDub worked had to prevent Hollingshed from getting many chances, but Formann was having a good game with 17 points. Buffs hit 11-13 free throws.

Unless they are able to reschedule games that were cancelled, they will play their last regular season game next Sunday at Utah.

From the interview JR did with the radio after the game, it sounds unlikely they will be able to schedule another game, so Utah will end the regular season. She said she was not hopeful.

Besides Formann having herself an excellent game and Hollingshed making 6 straight free throws, Zusa's back to back 3's when they were much needed was an important part of the game. Team had too many turnovers.

from cubuffs.com

The Huskies cut the CU lead to 11, 39-28, on the opening possession of the quarter, but CU got back-to-back 3's from sophomore Zuzanna Kulinska to regain the 17-point advantage, 45-28.

"What a blessing to have people that can come in and impact the game," Payne said about the CU bench. "It's funny because we came about 20 minutes earlier than we normally do because we didn't get to shootaround today. Zuza and Frida were the first ones on the court and they were shooting lights out in warmups. I think Zuza hit seven 3's in-a-row at one point. I'm my head I was like, 'OK if we are struggling to score let's get Zuza in the game,' and just see if she can knock down one of those shots, and boy she hit two big ones."
