Gehring Wins Pair Of Events At Air Force Meet

USAFA, Colo. —University of Colorado junior Eileen Gehring sprinted to a pair of first-place finishes on Saturday afternoon at the Air Force All-Comers meet to lead the CU track and field in the first meet of 2014.

Gehring won the 200 and 400-meter dashes, recording season-best times of 24.73 seconds in the 200 and 55.62 in the 400. Her teammate, Lindsy Mattson, also ran well in those same events, placing second in the 400 (55.99) and third in the 200 (25.22). Another Buff, Allie Haskell, earned a fourth-place finish in the 400 (57.37) and was also seventh in the 200 (26.31).

CU’s male sprinters also did well as Shaw Gifford was the runner-up in both the 60 and the 200. He placed second in the 60 with a time of 6.89 behind Zane Evan (6.85) and was the runner-up to former teammate Joe Morris in the 200. Morris crossed the finish in 20.80, while Gifford finished in 21.51. Jaylyn Mars also had a nice day on the track, finishing fifth in the 200 (21.95) and led CU in the 400 (49.66) with a sixth-place finish.
