Although I am flattered that some of you think I would be a good choice for the next AD at the University of Colorado, there are other people that would be far better candidates.
In my opinion, I think CU was fortunate to have Mike Bohn's passion, loyalty, integrity, vision, and steadfast commitment to the student-athlete these last eight years. And not just to the student-athlete, but also to faculty, fans, the community and the university as a whole. Mike's willingness to strive to get better was real, but time and circumstances stunted that progress. Some have speculated that I was involved in Mike's firing. I assure you, if it was my decision, Mike would still be the AD.
This has been a difficult week and I am very sad to see Mike go, but I am fully committed to my school. In whatever form it takes, let's all come together to get CU back on top and keep it there.

****. I hate Phil.
Although I question the timing and execution of this move, I respect the President's and Chancellor's prerogative to make a change that gives CU's athletic program a chance at sustainable success - as long as there is a PLAN. If the sum total of the plan is to hire a replacement for Mike to "run it like a business", then I think we missed the boat...again! If on the other hand the plan is for the entire athletic enterprise to have the organization, tools, resources and support to compete at the highest level, then we should all stand Shoulder to Shoulder ready to do our part.

I don't think you are alone.

While I don't like the timing of this at all, and if I were going to fire him I would've done it mid-October similar to when Nebraska did there's or mid-November like when CSU's did there's. I don't think this is completely without merit. Things change. They probably didn't expect the press conference fiasco, head coaching search mangled (I'm not saying MacInytre is going to be bad but let's be honest he wasn't exactly close to their top choice), and a lack of fundraising for the Folsom/football project. The longer this went on the worst it would've looked, so sometimes you just have to cut your losses. Personally, I would've likely given Bohn another two years to get things right and see how Mac2 was doing. It's just a very complex decision.

I'm not going to get into the other stuff in your post, but this caught my eye. From most accounts, MM was our second choice. That's pretty close to being the top choice.

I find that very hard to believe given how long it took. Butch Jones wasn't even seen as a great fit to many. Even if he was the second choice, the fact we had to settle for him shows how far CU football has fallen. Again, let me say again, it may work out. It doesn't change the search process however. Hawkins look good when he was hired, so did Embree, most do. They all win their pressers for the most part.

The Embree hire was nearly universally criticized by everybody outside of Boulder. I can't remember one publication that considered that a good hire.

Nobody that follows college football thought the Embry hire was a good hire. Every coaching hire evaluation I saw listed it as a solid "F."

Not even the B4L newsletter?

Even if he never donates a penny more to CU, Solich should be praised for this letter. He's used his bully pulpit perfectly. He effectively called out Benson and DiStefano publicly, questioned their commitment to athletics (i.e. "as long as there is a PLAN"), and made it known that he is not meddling or behind the firing.

In other words, he told Benson and DiStefano to get their act together and fix this dumpster fire. :congrats:

Solich did put together a great letter. He clearly wasn't going to allow the dynamic duo of duds lay off the blame on anything he did. Bravo.

That's revisionist history, many had it as C's and D's. It wasn't exactly considered the worst hire of all-time.

I'm talking more locally here. I'm sure if Mac2 doesn't work out, we'll hear a lot of hindsight criticism on that hire as well. I think it was a good hire, given everything, but I don't see this as a "home run."

Dr. Phil may have decided to do the firing in December but it takes him six month to figure out how to pull his head out of his turd portal.

There is no comparison between the Embree hire and the NuMac hire. Not between the coaches we hired, not between the way the searches were conducted (well, at least the one time there was an actual search), not in the external influences at work, not in the evaluation of the hires, there's just no comparison.

And I like this guy Coach Mac way more than I think I'd like Food Cart Jones.

On paper Hawk looked like the best out of the three, Mac2 clear #2, and Embree a distant third.

No it's not. I didn't read a single review above an F. Several reviews listed it as the worst head coaching hire of the year.

Now can you put the links up with the "worst head coaching hire of the year?"
I remember Athlon's or Lindy's...I forget which one, had Embo as the worst D1 hire that year. But in the end, does it matter? Embo: good guy, great Buff, unsuccessful HC. Let's move on.
