WAIKOLOA, Hawai’i — The University of Colorado men’s golf team opened its spring season here Thursday and stands in 17th place after one round of the 24th annual Amer Ari Hawaii-Hilo Invitational.

No. 3 Oklahoma State scored the day’s best round, a 17-under 271, to own a one stroke lead over TCU (272), with No. 25 Southern California (273) and No. 19 Texas and No. 26 Auburn three strokes back (274).

Colorado, No. 83 in the final Golfweek fall rankings, is at the tail end of a 12-team logjam, with those schools separated by just 11 shots. The Buffaloes are in at 1-under 287, which is just one shot off the pace of the score posted by No. 2 Georgia Tech.
