i know we are all freaked out about the defense, particularly the interior defense, but in addition to the good signs on offense, there were some good signs overall for this team.
the last few years, had our Buffs gone down by 11 in the 4th, you could pretty much count on a loss. hawk has been talking about finishing and the team got the message. they nutted up and got it done when they were faced with some bad luck and adversity. this is a critical improvement, imho.
and, part of that overcoming adversity thing was the play of t-wheat, dizon, and walters in the 4th. those guys stepped it up big time and willed the defense to a win.
our Buffs have a long way to go, but they stayed loose and now they know they can come back when the chips are down. we don't have the horses to expect a huge year this season, but if they keep working hard, there is no reason to believe they can't be a bowl team. asu and fsu are going to be real testers the next 2 weeks. let's see how they respond to the big step up in competition. the old adage is that teams make their biggest improvement between week 1 and week 2. we will need that to be true here.
by the way, i listened to the hawk press thing this am--- he was talking about how hard the team worked yesterday at practice. he said a long time journalist who had been covering college ball for many years at the national level came up to him after the sunday practice. the reporter told him that he'd never seen a team work so hard the day after a game. that kind of toughness will pay off, particularly when our athleticism starts to catch up with the work ethic.
GO BUFFS!
