Helmets off!

When I was a kid, in the late 60s and 70s, I never saw a helmet come off. It seems like they come if regularly in the last couple of years. Why is this occurring?

I remember them coming off in the early '80s with some regularity.

I remember it, because my dad used to always say "wow, they knocked his head off" every time it happened - mainly to remind me that I believed him the first time he said it.

I think players purposely loosen the chin strap so the helmet is not worn as tight, hence many helmets falling off.

I thought I heard somewhere that the new helmets that are supposed to be better for concussion safety have a tendency to get knocked off more easily, which seems like a contradiction to me.

That's what I say every time!

Son?

In high school they changed the rule so that a player had to leave the game if their helmet came off. Instantly went from one or two coming off per series to maybe one per game. It's definitely a result of purposely loose chin straps.

or maybe it is science. the transfer of energy in a way that prevents concussions? or it could just be these wild kids today who don't respect their equipment. lol.

I kept mine tight for a few weeks to get it broke in. We got new helmets every year so the **** was uncomfortable for a few weeks. Once it stopped making my forehead red as ****, I'd loosen it some. I lost my helmet once, that's it. It was on that punt return, never lost it anymore though. I'm sure they loosen them a bit.

I remember that punt return.

I don't know that that means, and I am pretty sure I don't want the answer, either.
Just don't think it's butt sex sinner. Geez we have a lot of literal readers here. It means to light a bitch up and remove the sexual overtones there.
