Help Bohn out -- pick CU's next football coach

Since the football team sucks and many of us are hoping there is a head coaching change in a couple weeks - I would like to see Allbuffs undertake a project to help Bohn out with identifying and picking out some potential coaching candidates to consider.

I suggest that we make three different categories (and therefore three different threads):

Current head coaches
Current offensive coordinators
Current defensive coordinators

I think we should all spread out and pick one. I have a week to research my potential candidate, and then I post in the thread giving the reasons that my particular candidate should be hired as CU's next head coach.

For example - if it was 2005 and I thought the Buffs should hire Dan Hawkins, I would post in the "Current head coaches" thread and give my justification for why he should be considered for CU's head coaching position. I could talk about how many games he's won at Boise State, how many bowl games, etc.

For example - if I thought that Mike Stoops should be the next coach, I would post in the "Current defensive coordinators" thread and give my justification for why he should be considered for CU's head coaching position. I could list his past head coaching experience, his experience in the Pac 12, the performance of his defense, etc.

Rather than spending the next two weeks endlessly bitching about the coaching change which very possibly won't come - lets divide up and come up with our own picks and give our justifications for said selections. Once we've identified all the potential candidates, we can spend tons of time debating which one we think would have the most success at CU.

Who is interested? I'd be willing to pick one from each category and provide a synopsis on why I think each would be a good coach at CU, to get the ball rolling.

Can't we just get Simon Cowell and the PAC12 NETWORK to produce a reality show called "so you think you can coach"?

Since we might be stuck with Embree for the next 12 months, a reality show to select CU's next coach would provide a nice diversion.

Bohn's head will be flooded with so many names

Paul Chryst.

Coaching experience:

1989–1990
1991–1992
1993
1994
1995
1996
1997–1998
1999–2001
2002
2003–2004
2005–2011
2012–
West Virginia (GA)
San Antonio Riders (assistant)
UW–Platteville (OC)
Ottawa Rough Riders (assistant)
Illinois State (OC)
Saskatchewan Roughriders (OC)
Oregon State (OC)
San Diego Chargers (TE)
Wisconsin (TE)
Oregon State (OC)
Wisconsin (OC)
Pittsburgh (HC)

Chryst was offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Oregon State in 2003–04. The Beavers ranked 10th in total offense (463.0 ypg) and No. 6 nationally in passing yardage per game (328.1) in 2003. The 2003 Beavers became the first team in NCAA Division I history with a 4,000-yard passer, 1,500-yard rusher and two 1,000-yard receivers. Among the Oregon State stars he coached were RB Ken Simonton, the school’s career rushingleader, QB Derek Anderson, who left as the Pac 10’s No. 2 career passing leader, and RB Steven Jackson, a 2004 first-round draft choice for the St. Louis Rams.
After a one-year stint as the Badgers’ tight ends coach in 2002, Chryst returned to Wisconsin in 2005 and under his direction, the Wisconsin offense showed immediate and drastic improvement. The 2005 team set school records for both scoring average (34.3 ppg) and for points scored in a season (446). UW scored at least 40 points six times in 2005. After ending the 2005 season with a 10–3 record, the 2006 offense was again potent under Chryst, and helped the team to a strong 12–1 finish. Chryst's strong offenses helped guide Wisconsin to back-to-back Rose Bowl
appearances in 2010 and 2011.

I'm new to following Colorado. Thinking of attending there so learning more about the program and that led me here. As far as coaches, how about Bobby Petrino? He is available and has been a big winner everywhere he has gone.

Welcome, hopefully you go to CU. I would be in favor of Petrino but the CU AD/University in general is WAY too pc to allow this

This sounds complicated, can't we just throw out names randomly like in every other thread? I'll start: Bill Cowher.

I don't think Embree is gone after this season...as horrific as it is to say.
That being said, a name I like that may not go anywhere now, but might after 2013...
Dave Doeren, Northern Illinois.
When he was DC at Wisconsin (2006-10), they never finished worst than 38th in total D and had studs like Watt.
At NIU, he's 21-4 and has a great offensive system...Harnish was incredible last season and Jordan Lynch is fantastic.

Paul Chryst isn't going to leave Pitt (where they have better facilities and a better recruiting base) to come to CU. Add on to the fact that he isn't a douche like Todd Graham so he's not going to leave after one year.

Despite his impressive resume, he has that same exact "deer in the headlights" look as HC on the sidelines that Embree displays.

Wasting our time on this thread...We can re-visit it after next year. Embree not going anywhere. To throw a name out there I like Pat Hill

Where are the categories for the following:
NFL tight end coach with no coordinator experience
NFL running back coach with no coordinator experience

Realistically Embree isn't going anywhere. Brown is gone at the end of the year. Who knows with Bienemy.

Also be realistic with what coaches will come here. Right now CU football is a great place to commit career suicide.

Dave Doeren at Northern Illinois ftw. He's the total package.. BCS coordinator experience and doing well as head coach turning around a small school. Midwest guy. Please send truckload of cash his way and make it happen.

Only an idiot like Bohn and the rest of those morons running things in Boulder would be scared to fire Embree because he is black. I am an African American CU alumnus and I think it is absolutely criminal that there is not a serious on going discussion of who our next coach should be. This is not a matter of skin color. It is a matter of incompetence and the dignity of a once proud CU program.

I am plain ashamed of the CU football program. Embree and his coaching staff have done everything possible to tarnish a once proud tradition. The fact that more CU players from the past, more boosters and more alumni are not outraged and shouting at the top of their lungs everyday befuddles me. From time to time, one prominent person will speak out and then all goes silent. Too many people seem comfortable with the present situation in Boulder for my liking. It signifies too many losers in our midst.

Doeren (NIU), Taggart (WKU), McCall (NW), Wristen (CSU-Pueblo), Dykes (La. Tech). I know Wristen could be a risk but he has major conference experience and has done wonders at CSU-P, what I'd really like is to see someone like Doeren or Dykes or Taggart come in as coach and try Wristen as DC

You should send Mike Bohn a letter / email and let him know your position / feelings on the matter.

Utah State just ran out of bounds allowing La Tech to have an extra 40 seconds or so. La Tech came back and tied it. OT on the way.
