Here is why Hawk was given more time then Embree...

Dedicated to all the fans and people in the media who keep asking this question. It's really pretty simple. Hawk should not have been given a fifth year but that was done because of political/financial reasons. So why did he get four years and Embree two...

1. Although his record was not good, Hawk still won more games then Embree did. (.327 vs .160 winning percentage)

2. Hawk's teams were at least somewhat competative, Embree's teams got blown out almost every game.

3. With Hawk we looked like a functional football team, with Embree we had litterally the dead last ranked offense and defense in the country.

4. Hawk took us to a bowl game in his second year and was a miracle FG away from going to a bowl game the next year.

5. Hawk beat several ranked teams including #2 Oklahoma, Embree seemed to lose by 50 every time he played a ranked team.

6. At least on paper Hawk recruited better then Embree and thus there was more reason to believe that things would get better.

7. Hawk had tons of success at Boise State (53-11 record) whereas Embree had never even ascended above being a position coach and thus there was more reason to believe that Hawk would be able to turn things around then with Embree.

Gotta agree on those. Hawk had a lot more 'drama' in the program (see: Baby Hawk) that made people think a lot worse of his teams, I suspect. That said, Hawkins certainly had some epic blowout losses. I'll still never forgive him for getting shut-out and blowing our NCAA-leading streak of not getting shut out when he could have kicked a field goal to make the score 56-3 or whatever. Of course, since Embree managed to get shut out at home this year, I'm not sure it matters now

Beloved former Regent and all-round pimp-politico Jimmy Martin deserves a lot of the credit for the current Curse of the New-weasle: CU should have hired Barnett to continue Mac's legacy.

Instead, Lil Jimmy stuck his Regent nose in and pulled rank on the Search Committee to get lead guitarist Ricky W put in place.

It's been a downhill slide ever since, except for a couple years' of reprieve under GB (who promptly blew it with "Hot Tub" Hnaida---another direct fubar set up by Ricky).

Not defending Hawk, but along with the fewer number of blowouts; I was often on the edge of my seat for a majority if the games, whether the buffs won or not. Even with ranked teams, Hawk kept us in it.

nobody can answer that question, flounder. that is a fools errand. people can speculate all they want. does not matter. didn't happen. just as much as asking the question if the 'scandal' never happened to barnett. it did. we have to live with and within reality. sucks at times but, that is what we have to do.

The same result with Hawkins, it just may have taken longer. He would still be the same person regardless and it was certain inflexible qualities of character he possessed which kept him from succeeding.

It's all extremely frustrating. Under Hawkins we found countless inexplicable ways to lose games. It's scary to think how much better his record should have been, and we should have had a few winning seasons in there. With Embree, we were categorically uncompetitive. We need someone really good in here.

Obviously not a Nub fan, but better coached teams with better athletes and better school support often have the ball bounce thier way. FACT. The way CSU typically plays over thier head when they play us is how CU typically played NU. The inexplicable years was when CU was just as good, if not better and got hammered. See 1994 as an example.

This is actually the whole point. Many people consider Hawkins to be one of the worst coaches in CU history. Probably not the worst, but certainly on the short list of a select few.

And yet his performance was light years better than Water Bottle's, and it is not even close when the two are matched up.
