I think you guys will like this one.

I went up in the stacks of Norlin to scope out a couple yearbooks from seasons where the Buffs reincorporated silver into their repertoire, the photos/articles I came across were way cooler than I could have expected. So I found a way to put my favorites into an article for you all.

Fun read.

No doubt that silver is a legit uniform for CU football.
 
Also, for those who think that the Buffs old 1962 uniforms look like the Raiders... it's because of our modern perception. The Raiders started as a franchise in 1960 and, if anything, modeled their uniform design after the Buffs.

They didn't drop the gold until the late 60s.

Many thanks for doing this. I remember the silver helmets and pants from when I was a little kid. By the time I got to school we wore black jerseys and sort of yellow gold pants with gold helmets with an interlocking CU.
 
Glad you guys liked it! Definitely the most fun I've ever had in a library.

If anybody has a request to do this for a different year or era or anything like that I would be happy to go up there again.

Does anyone know what year that Vietnam photo was from? my dad graduated in '69 and he was trying to figure out if he was there or not.

99% sure it was '62. It somehow got mixed up in the folders I had the photos in so I didn't want to list a year on there and be wrong, but if memory serves it came out of the '62 yearbook.

I really had no idea about that era of CU Football; it makes one wonder what might have been if he wasn't fired. He never had any college HC experience anywhere else from which to extrapolate a projection of performance.

It also makes me a really sad; the admin railroading the FB program goes back at least 50 years, so there's maybe no hope of it ever changing.

Had to be late 60's as US did not have visible involvement in Vietnam until late '65 and much friction until Tet in early '68.

Only thing is, I didn't (purposely) look at any yearbooks after '62. Maybe I tried to grab '59 and grabbed '69 instead. I'll have to go back and check for my own sanity.

Would it have been possible for people to be holding that sign up even if the US wasn't involved yet?

I have a personal friend who played on the 58-60 teams. He tells me each Friday he would go to a drug store in Boulder, head back to the office and would receive an envelope with cash in it.

Someone needs to tell the current players and recruits where that drug store is.
 
It was Anderson Drug. Another tidbit to add to the story: My source was recruited by Dal Ward. There were no stipends under Ward. Ward was fired because he could not beat Oklahoma. Sonny was hired and the stipends became available and they beat Oklahoma.
