Was watching Yogi Roth's Facebook live feed talking about PAC-12 games this weekend, and he said this is one of the biggest wins in CU history.
While this is huge, I think he needs to do some research of CU's history.
To me this win reminds me a lot of the Kansas State game in 2001.
 
Definitely not one of the biggest wins in history. But it is a big win for this year's team.

The KSU game in 01 is a great comparison, IMO. Start of the RTD slogan for CU football.

In a vacuum, I think this is the biggest win since the WVU win in 2008 or the OU game in 2007. As it pertains to the program going forward, I think it is right there with any win since that 2001 season.
 
It's hard to tell right now. Remember when we beat OU under Hawkins and we all thought that was the turning point? Well, it wasn't. I'd like to think this is similar to the Oregon game in 1985 where we won on a ...defensive... Stop... As... Time... Ran... Out. Eerie.

That game helped propel us to a bowl game and really turned the program around. I'm thinking this will be the same kind of deal.
 
I think you could easily say this is the biggest CU win since joining the Pac-12. How much farther you can extend it, I'm not sure.

To say this is one of the biggest wins in CU history is just completely wrong. Oregon was not even ranked. CU has upset ranked teams over the last 60 years more times than I could count. CU has won a national championship, beat much better ranked teams on the road, etc. In all totality, this is a big win for the team at this time, in this period of CU football history, but it unless this becomes 'the game' with 'the pick' where CU turned it around, it's unlikely to crack the pantheon of all time CU victories.

Still, sometimes a game that isn't THE big win can occupy a really important place in the timeline of a program, a la the Kenny Wheaton game, 1994 UO vs. UW.

The rest of the year, and the years that follow, will determine where this game will rank. For now, in isolation, it is not in the conversation of greatest CU games.

This win is like the fUcla game in 2001.

Coming off a loss. Road game against a team most said we couldn't beat.

It's a step. One step. The turn around has begun.
 
All depends on what happens from here on out. Lose this weekend and the significance of this win may start to decrease quickly. Win 7 or 8 games this year and pull in a top 25 class? We may see this as the turning point for CU football, making it the biggest win in the last decade.

Agreed. Any and all good will this win has brought would quickly diminish if CU finds a way to lose on Saturday. Can't afford a let down.
 
To build on HighlandBuff's post, this definitely is the biggest in CU's Pac-12 history, which is what Yogi and the Pac-12 network are most concerned about. The prior 120+ years of CU football is merely a footnote to those guys.

this. we'll only know how big this game was in a couple years.
 
Lol what? Not even close! I'm only 30 and I could name tons of games that were bigger. 62-36, big 12 championship over Texas, miracle at Michigan.

  • First win in the Conf opener since beating Wazzou in Pullman in 2012
  • First win against Oregon and @Oregon since joining the Pac12

If we do some of these things next...
  • Winning next week would be the first time we had two conf wins since 2011 (Arizona & @Utah, both in November)
  • Last time we started 2-0 in conference, 2002 (#13 KSU, KU)
  • Last time we won 3 or more conf games, 2007
  • Last time we went .500 in conference, 2007 (6–7, 4–4 Big 12 HCDH)
  • Last time overall record above .500, 2005 (7–6, 5–4 Big 12 HCGB)
  • Last bowl game, 2007 (Bama)

Things that are milestones that also need doing...
  • Last shutout of conf oppoent, 2007 (OkSt)
  • Last win against a ranked opponent, 2008 (#21 WVa) 2009 (#17 KU)
  • Last win against a top 10 team, 2007 (#3 OU)
  • Last time we beat two ranked opponents, 2003 (#23 CSU, #22 Mizzou)

Last win against a ranked opponent was #17 KU in 2009. That KU team proved to be a paper tiger but it still counts.
 
This win is certainly big in the context of this moment and where things have been in the last 5 (and many +) years. But not at the top of all time great wins.
This win provides some validation and momentum for sure. Should really bolster the coaches and players that they are doing so many things right and well.

There seems to be a trend for announcers, some media, many fans, to want to hyperbolyze every game, every player, every moment. There seems to be a desire to call everything the greatest in the hype of the moment.

nah. That game was a total fluke comeback. We took this one.

To the myopic folks who live in 12Pac land, CU sports prior to 2011 doesn't register as anything of consequence.
 
Biggest win since '07 Oklahoma (and no, don't give me '08 West Virginia. Most overrated win ever).

That was a bigger win on paper, obviously. However, it didn't take us anywhere. It was one of our final signs of life before falling into a near decade of hell.

This has the potential to be a huge springboard

- Win CCG
- Sustain 10+ win seasons
- Sustain national ranking
- Playoff Birth
- Compete for national title
- Win national championship
 
Been a fan since I was a Freshman in 85. There are a dozen or more bigger games in the 5 following years than this one. Big in the sense that it signifies a continuation of the Rise, yes. But the turn around in 85 after going 1-10 and losing to Drake had many more significant wins than this one at this point. Can it become a bigger game in CU history, sure. But there is a tremendous amount of work that needs to be done and is laid out by posters above before this is considered in the top 10-15 big wins all time for CU.
 
I read this morning the last time we scored a touchdown on the opening drive of the first four games was 1989. I think we went 11-1 that season.
 
Not the biggest, but akin to us beating Nebraska in the 80s...showed we are one of the big boys. This will help recruiting a ton I hope...getting a few top 20 classes would put us in a position in a few years to be in the playoff picture.
