is there a single die-hard colorado fan on this earth who would have felt that our chances to be relevant again in major sports would happen in men's basketball before it happened in football?

if so, i want to shake your hand.

i'm sorry for all the ****** things i thought to myself about tad boyle based upon (1) his team kicking arse in high school and (2) him committing to ku rather than CU. both events like 30+ years ago.

I didn't see it coming, but maybe we should have. The practice facility has given us a huge boost in basketball, and we desperately need something similar to come to fruition in football, and soon. That's not to downplay the pure hard work and determination Tad and his staff are showing, by any means. This is ****ing awesome, there is no better time that things could be taking off in basketball than right now. I imagine many rival Pac-12 fans are going to be in for quite a shock when they realize what the Buffs have brewing in hoops

Reading the preview mags that have come out so far, the less-educated fans in the Pac-12 are going to undergo the shock THIS SEASON.

Eh we may not be good this year early especially (thanks cain) but we are gonna **** ppl up as time goes on.

I've seen us projected 10th, 11th and 12th in the conference so far. We will not be that bad.

I think it's going to be like a lesser version of last season. We're going to start slow but get better as the season goes on. And we will scare some people in the Pac-12 tourney.

Goose, if you keep this up, I'm going to become a BBall fan, and I don't even like the sport. You're killin' me smalls!

Come to a pre-game at the Dark Horse and the first drink is on me. That's right, it's just like dating -- I'm not above bribery to get people to these things!

6th to 8th is much more realistic, imo. Agree that we may have a slow start, but that strong competition early will benefit us greatly come league play. 9-9 or 10-8 is a very realistic goal, the Pac-12 just isn't exactly at its zenith in terms of basketball strength right now. That three game home stand to start things off is going to be absolutely crucial (Utah, Wazzu, Washington). We've got get the keg rocking despite the students being on break. Winning at least 2/3 of those is a must for the Buffs to have a solid record in league play. Great opportunity for the Buffs

How much are season tickets. Last time i had season tix they were $5 of course that was back when we had a fb program and wished we had a bb program.

Sorry but i'm not buying all the hype being thrown around the board tonight. I'm thrilled that Boyle is having success on the recruiting trail but this is a team who couldn't even make the tournament last year and is losing a lottery draft pick and it's other top-3 scorers. We're not going to be good this year and depending on how good/how ready to contribute some of these recruits are we may not be much better next year, there are just a lot of unknowns. I'm not saying we're going to be terrible but I wouldn't bet on making the tournament in the next couple of years either. Boyle clearly has the team headed on the right track but it's premature to assume that some dramatic renaissance in CU basketball is occuring as many of you seem to be doing. I'll reserve judgement until after this season. The big key is how Booker, Adams, and Dinwiddie look.

I dont know that i necessarily predicted wed be this good before football, but i do remember thinking to myself after hawks 2-10 season that i might as well be a basketball fan, becuase theres no way it could frustrate me like football

JRK makes some fair points. There are a lot of unknowns. Getting good recruits is great news and we should be excited, but it doesn't mean we will have a good season. It increases our chances. I employ the "wait and see" method as well. I don't get hyped for football anymore because it hurts too much and I don't want to get into that cycle for basketball. Show me wins and I will be excited.

I can only speak for myself here, but when I say the team is going to be better than people expect, I'm talking about everyone predicting us to be between 10th and 12th in conference. That is NOT going to happen. First off, Utah, Wazzu & USC are probably going to be pretty bad, so that helps us there. Secondly, we have some talent that people are underestimating with our transfers.

I honestly believe that 7th or 8th in the Pac-12 is a realistic expectation, and that a CBI or NIT trip is expected this season.

I'm not sure I'd use the word "relevant", but based on the seasons the FB and BB teams had last year, I really thought that b-ball had a much better chance at being successful this year. I'm not knocking the FB team here, just saying that because of the coaching change, different schemes, etc., I didn't think they'd win more than 4 games. On the other hand, even tho the hoops team lost some fire-power, the staff and schemes are in place and a .500 season is definitely doable with an NIT bid a distinct possibility.

I hate to say that my first instincts on the FB team seem to be correct, unfortunately. And I haven't changed my stance on what I think the b-ball team will do.

Well to be honest this team can lay claim that they should have made the big dance last season. Yes they have lost a lot of scoring but this year they will have a true center that will allow Roberson more freedom inside. How good is the transfer from Utah and will Dinwiddie finally give Colorado that PG that they have missed the last two seasons. Do you really believe the Buffs will finish 10th or lower in the Pac 12 this year?

I did not expect it. My expectations are somewhat tempered though. The recruits are great it and it helps pump up the fan base and inject some talent. The talent might not pay off for a few years down the line. I've seen too many bad games in my career at CU and as an alum. That being said the attitude shifted when Boyle came in. You could feel the slight shift, winning became expected. Then to have the year we had last year, I was jazzed and I don't even live in Boulder anymore. It was exciting. I think Boyle and Staff can build off the momentum that was built last season and continued with the practice facility. I wont get as excited as I used too for football but I'm still excited. I wish I could get some more games in.

I too am in the school of thought with Rugged (and I'm sure others) that I will never get as excited for football again. It just hurts too much. It will be some time before we are relevant or even .500 in football again. I'm glad we have another sport on the rise.

I know I don't post much in the basketball forum but I have been a bball fan since a freshman. I'm looking forward to a great season and building toward the future!

Go Buffs!

Hi, I'm Bone Buff, and hanging out in this forum instead of the football forum makes me not want to kill myself!

I'm certainly desperate to be able to cheer for some success - any success - athletically at CU. The Mens BB team has been a blessing. Boyle is the real deal. I'm convinced of that. We have something special here.

... ...pot kettle??...?? JRK's post was really good in my opinion. It was fair, and I fully agree actually. There's too much unknown about players we're relying on this year. I agree with Goose that we'll finish better than 11th, but I disagree that we should make the NIT.This year may be a difficult season, but we should still be competitive. SHT is unknown, but we are relying on him heavily. Cain and Dinwiddie are unknown, but we need them to step in right away this year. Adams is unknown, but we need him to score. Brown is known, but it's unknown how well he'll do with under Boyle. Roberson is expected improve, but it's unknown how much he can improve...As to the original question, I am very confident that a guy that used to post here under the name coereg, expected this. No offense to him, but this isn't due to rare bball acumen, but rather, his undying optimism for CU Hoops.

I'm in agreement with duke and JRK against BCS.

Duke, in your opinion, do you see us being a CBI team at least?

I've obviously been on this train for a long time, and am glad to see so many jumping on!

Don't sleep on this season. While Burks, Higgins, et al may be gone, Carlon Brown and Jeremy Adams should help heal some departure driven wounds. Additionally, "Dinwiddie Spencer" and Booker will add some tantalizing youth, and the return of SH-T is going to be bigger than most who are predicting Pac-12 doom realize.

Don't you have to pay to be in the CBI? Bohn will never pay for us to go to a 3rd rate tourney.
