If so, I have no complaints about that.

I just want to win. But all things being equal, I'd rather cheer for a team that wins on the ground than a team which does it through the air. Personal preference as a fan.

Besides, I think CU history has shown that the results are better when the program commits to running the ball. It just seems to work here.

Needless to say, I thoroughly enjoyed watching what the team did today on the ground.
 
I would obviously rather be balanced. The passing game has not gotten going, but it didn't have to today. CSU's passing game looks really bad so next week will come down to the trenches.

CSU is not respecting the QB pull on the read option today at all. Sefo will need to keep a few times in order to keep them honest.
 
Problem is, teams will key and start stuffing the run.Sefo and the passing offense are mediocre right now and if they don't fix it quick, big trouble.
 
they started out very wobbly, but i think the run game settled them down and they started executing. and then i think they wore down umass pretty good. that was the best win in a long time, even though it was against a lowly team.

let's see how the next one goes.

I wish it was mediocre. It's bloody dreadful right now.
 
We struggle using the middle of the field in the passing game. I think a lot of this is the lack of a true pass catching tight end. the way to counter this is to send your tightend on a seam and do an angle route w/ your RB. ran it perfectly on that 3rd down w/ lindsay. Honestly, we desperately need Keeney to turn into a threat.
 
Hopefully our passing game will come back...it was potent last year and we have pretty much everybody back. We have the same running backs, and they weren't great last year. Now they all look like 100yard/game backs.

Something has really changed with the character of our O-line. They are punishing downhill run-blockers and last year they were dedicated, technical pass blockers.

We do seem to be way more physical than last year. Reading the Umass player/coach post-game stuff; they felt that they were physically punished. Whipple said they were repeatedly hit in the mouth. No one talked that way about Colorado last year.
 
Anytime we've been a good/powerhouse team, (at least in my memory) we were a team that ran it down the other team's throat.
No, we're by no means a powerhouse, but being able to run the ball wears down the other team and gives us a puncher's chance to keep a game close and win.
Ground breaking insight I know, but that's what we need to do.

It's partly personnel and partly another year of development. Munyer & Crabb were more technical guys. Callahan, Kough and Huckins are maulers. Kelley can bench press a house. And no one is going to confuse Irwin & Nembot for finesse OTs.

Power running is fine with me. It kills defenses up here. Saw it with UMass in the 2nd half. The altitude and the run after run after run killed them.

See what they can do against a pretty good front 7 next week. If they are still successful pounding the rock, maybe we have something with these backs.

He got away with at least two throws today that probably will not cut it against better competition. No need to protect the guy anymore.

Exactly. I was waiting to see if Lindgren would get cute(stupid) and start passing. They ran the ball almost every play to start the 2nd half. Best win in years, loving it.

You're right there were definitely a couple that could have been disastrous. I'm not saying he's without fault, but he was not awful today.
 
This OL can not pass protect, so a good running game is crucial to the pass to keep the D honest. I'm impressed with the OL run blocking...reminded me of the Buffs circa 2000. Fun to watch.

UMass was essentially the same team that nearly beat us last year, so we look much improved...at least for 1 game.
 
Absolutely, 68. An established running game would be Sefo's best friend; the next evolution is to work in play action passes and get the receivers in one-on-one match ups.
