I'm not complaining about any of the guys we currently have on the roster. Any one of the kids Tad was playing last night would have been well above the norm of what we have been seeing on the floor in Buffs uniforms for many years prior to Tad. Our level of talent is way up and a player like Levi wouldn't be looked at other than walking on.

That all said he contributed some things that we are dramatically missing. He couldn't slash to the bucket and make ESPN dunks, he could however stretch a defense like nobody we have on the roster. There were times when as the pass was on it's way to him you knew it was going to be 3, so did the defenses and they couldn't pack it in on us like they are now.

He also provided a stabilizing force. It seems like when things are tending to get out of control our current guys get even more out of control. We start turning the ball over, making silly fouls, and do nothing that resembles and organized offense. Levi was a guy who the crazier things got the calmer he got.

This isn't a complaint because I love us being good enough to complain about losing to a good team when we had an off night but that doesn't mean that we don't have weaknesses. Our half court offense dissapeared for long stretches last year and was MIA a lot last night. We tend to get into stretches where we look like a bunch of guys getting together in a rec center for the first time and give up big runs.

I know we are in on a lot of top talent for the upcoming years but I hope that Tad looks at somebody who is good enough to play at our level but who will fill some of those weaknesses we have and provide leadership. I know that Staltzer is a leader and at times can be a decent outside shooter but he isn't at the level of the rest of the team right now. Talton developing into that guy? Not sure and not counting on it.

Levi didn't contribute until his 4th year in the program. We can't be a good program if it takes that long to develop every player. I don't know if we have a great shooter like Levi on the roster but let's step back from the ledge a bit.

As I said I'm not complaining about who we have. I also stated that Levi wouldn't get recruited to this current program.

That said I'd like to see us try to find some of the characteristics he had late in his career.

Not his fault, did you forget he should have been redshirted as a FR, to take care of hip problems, affecting each side of his body? Two separate surgeries kept him from full development until late in his junior year. Genius Ricardo, instead played him and exacerbated problems which might have been corrected early on. Although he wasn't a great defender, his limitations were caused in part by those surgeires, but nobody worked harder or smarter than him on "D". Perfect example of the "Euro-shooter" the Buffs could use now.

I miss Knutson, too. There's a great feeling when a guy like that catches a pass and you know he's going to knock down the shot. The thing is, we can have that with a bit more athleticism and defense. Heck, I can see Talton becoming that kind of shooter--but giving us a bit more on defense and handling the ball. Tad is never going to recruit someone just for his offensive game, that seems clear.

I miss him too, but don't forget we would have to outscore teams to win with that team because our defense that year was terrible. Yes Knutson could light it up when open, and I wish we had a guy like that off the bench, but don't forget he was a senior, and I can see a few guys that could develop into lights out shooters by the time they are junior/seniors: Talton, Thomas and Stalzer - all have potential to be knockdown shoooters.

Now, the key for Boyle is to find a knockdown shooter that can defend and rebound right away. That would be perfect Boyle player.

[strike]So, mountain has completely ignored all the problems with the white guy 3pt shooter theory and instead has reposted it in a brand new thread so we can rehash it again. Joys [/strike]

Edit: stop dragging up old threads assholes!

You might want to check the date of the OP.

I don't remember how bad the injuries were his freshman year. I do remember that it was an absolute waste that he wasn't redshirted as a junior. Levi's a total gym rat, but his junior year he was in too much pain some days to even shoot free throws. Ridiculous that he wasn't given that season off.

So how did it go down.

Levi: I am hurt and need to red shirt.
Coach: **** you

Levi is not the type of guy who would ask to sit. Too much of a fighter and he was going to try to help the team any way he could unless he was told to shut it down.
