I was afraid the moment was too big

It was.

Team couldn't handle it.

Came out flat and mistake-prone.

Fought back to be tied at half - which has been a consistently good thing with these guys.

Then, came out flat and mistake prone for the 2nd half with a great opportunity in front of them.

Improving team that still isn't ready for prime time.

I wasn't willing to accept the moral victories that so many held on so tightly to last season. Last night was the first time that I walked away from a CU game thinking that CU played a much more talented team a lot closer than I could hope for.

Team couldn't handle it or the coaches failed to prep the team?

I'll go with the latter.

The defense came to play. The offense sucked per usual.

Actually, I was completely unimpressed with Oregon; pedestrian QB, suspect defense, lousy coaching. It was our game for the taking and still fell victim to self-inflicted wounds. To quote a classic song from the 60's "and the beat goes on...."

This was a chance to get a big win over a big name, average at best team. Mac and crew can talk them up, but that is not a top tier P12 team unless they figure something out on defense and at QB. They had the ****ing walk-on holder playing QB for half of the game, but he flashed greatness with that one throw. Undefeated rates him the 9th best QB in the country after last night and PFF agrees.

****ing sunshine pumper.

What does that say about the ASU and U of A games coming up?

ASU beat a good team last night. We will see what ASU shows up. They won the road. That Ballage run at the end was awesome. I'm guessing the home town boy runs for 150 against us.

Arizona is struggling. But they have a mobile QB when Solomon isn't hurt.

Stanford is going to mud hole us. Their lines are a lot better than Oregon's lines.

Bingo.

Effort and heart can only mask lack of talent for so long...and it can't do it very well in the PAC12. We're probably 1, more likely 2, years out...which should sound familiar to Buff fans.

But not to be too much of a negative Nellie...we are markedly improved from last year...just the hole that was dug was very, very, Marianas Trench deep.

I think they came to play, but just lack the athletes. In the open field UOs speed was just too much. The LBs are terrible though.

60 rushing attempts for UO

Tackling leaders

Awuzie 11
Thompson 8
Moeller 7
Severson 7
Gamboa 6
Witherspoon 5
Solis 4
Olugbode 4
McCartney 4

You guys are going to be competitive this year. Oregon doesn't suck, they will challenge for the North again. IMO you guys will probably beat OSU, and have a great chance at beating Wazzoo and even Arizona. You may even upset any one of the other PAC 12 teams along the way. Definite improvement from a couple years ago. Your facilities now kick ass, you will recruit better from here.

It was frustrating, but only because we all thought we had a legit chance to win the game. We were within one score in the fourth quarter, so yeah, we did have a chance.

We were exposed a little. Our run defense is our Achilles heel. That absolutely needs to improve. Oregon is a good running team with a very good running back, though. We won't face too many teams with that kind of ability again.

They set up the entire offense off the run. If they can establish their run game, they have you. They are currently struggling to replace the QB, but that team is loaded with 4 and 5 star recruits. Uncle Phil is the gift that keeps on giving up there.

Ummm, the pac12 is a running conference outside of Wazzou and Cal. Not sure about OSU.

I think we'll face more teams of similar ability and with better QB play than without.

Every year CU gets overlooked by superior teams in conference play, every year CU "almost wins" but actually loses these games, and every year we hear that the program is improving and that next year these losses will turn into wins. Strangely enough, they never do. This is no different than any other loss. We got physically dominated on both sides of the ball, our QB play is poor, and we make mental mistakes when we have opportunities.

The moment was "Too Big" What the heck does that mean. We were playing an unranked opponent at home and the moment is too big. I guess anything more than Nicholls State is a real risk for the MOMENT.

Tell me where this team is improving!!!

Margin of defeat

Margin of defeat

Last year we took a good UCLA team into OT - so will fans say we have regressed if we lose big time to them this year? This is not the same Oregon team as last year...Getting outscored 24-7 in the second half is telling and not good.

Margin of defeat against teams with superior talent is not a good measure of team improvement. I guarantee you that most P12 teams take CU *very* lightly.

You can use this argument a lot, but not last night. That was a desperate Oregon team that played two QBs and was clearly struggling at times in the first half. They did not take that game lightly at all.

Oregon sucks.

This. I don't understand how the moment was too big. This is not the Oregon of recent years. I see very little that tells me this team is better than last year's.

Oregon sucks.

I don't think so. We will see. I'm not that impressed with Cal right now, we'll see about that too. I expect the North to be between Stanford and Oregon. Right now the P12 is the only conference in FBS and FCS with all teams with a .500 or better overall record.

3-1 and at home and tied at halftime with Oregon was as confident as this team is going to get. I don't think we were out-coached, both had some real head scratchers. We were out-athleticized and we will continue to be except for maybe a couple of games. I guess our coaches aren't good enough to overcome that. It's a tall order, but you do see it happen. What we don't see are significantly better athletes committing. So, more of the same for the foreseeable future?
