I'm feeling a bit encouraged

After watching 9 games this season, and with a record of 4-5 (1-4), we are not where we want to be yet.

However, I am feeling better than I was three weeks ago. I honestly think I've seen improvement and buy-in from the players.

I don't know if we'll win the rest of this season, but I'm hoping that what I've seen lately is a turn in the corner, a place where the players have started to believe that they CAN adn SHOULD win in the Pac 12. At this point, we've seen what CU can do if they execute, and all it will take is one defining win (against a team that we SHOULDN'T win) to get us on the right track.

I think if we win one more game this year, this season can be listed as a success, and if we win 2 more games, I think it's the beginning of a beautiful thing.

compelte RTD? No. However, it's a turn in the right direction, and that's what every journey begins with.
 
I'd feel a lot better if we hadn't seen a return to not finishing against UCLA.

I didn't expect a win on Saturday, but I was hoping that the Oregon State game had shown the kids that they can close out conference games when they get in that situation again.

And then they got in the situation again and couldn't close it out. My concern is that what was gained in terms of confidence in Corvallis was immediately lost in the Rose Bowl.
 
I don't believe confidence was lost after that game. That's one thing I like about this team, they seem to keep fighting. They know they can line up and play with these teams. If we got boat raced that might be a different story. I don't believe in moral victories, but being up in the 4th qtr against the 24th ranked team in the country says something

I think this Saturday's game against Stanford is going to show us a lot.

I hope this team saw how close they were and comes out ready to fight to the end. I had Stanford down as a potential steal early this season,
and while they are a great team, they are beatable. Our confidence is at a season high, and we are playing at home.

This COULD be fun.

I got really, really excited for that Oregon game, because I felt it COULD be the one.

Not going to get my hopes up against the trees.

If our o-line can open holes like they did last Saturday, and we run the ball, and our LBs step up a little bit to account for Stanfords running game, we have a punchers chance!
 
I'm particularly impressed with the improvement on D. To hold a very talented UCLA team to 28 pts at home is great, as well holding OSU to 13 at home. The O seems to be doing a bit better than the beginning of the year. Special teams seem to be improving too. The fact we're 4-5 in November is pretty good...this team is just so unbelievably frustrating...I think 10 years of futility makes me more impatient than I otherwise would be if this were a regular rebuild.
 
There is a reason to be encouraged. As a team, in the past, we got rolled against ranked teams on the road. We have been a terrible road team in the Pac 12. The last two weeks has us winning at OSU and an almost upset in L.A. That is what our team is doing on the road the last two weeks. As long as we continue to fight, I believe we will be those games.

Also, we need to find out how serious our injuries on the OL are. We need Kronsage and Keogh to be healthy and playing. They both went out in the 2nd half.
 
Everyone was expecting a game similar to Arizona State. We got that the first half but we came out and showed in the 2nd half the yardage and plays we made were not a fluke. We finally started finishing. Problems were the continued big first half deficit and settling for 3 instead of getting 7 and questionable play calling. Even the announcers questioned it late on, you have the lead and you go away from that on the next series when you need to run and continue to suck the life out of the opponent. I am encouraged by UCLA, let's get at least one more win this year and go into 2016 and make a damn bowl game.
 
I totally agree.
I think the kids are figuring this out....but why go away from the run.
i loved the stretch when the commentators were saying, "CU is pounding the ball. Just watch. Liufau will wait for the safety
to bite and then he'll go deep and get a big gain."

Two plays later that same thing happened. Awesome to see the talent that made him a top recruit a few years back.

Also, I initially hated the QB runs, but I'm loving them now. He can get 4-6 yards a try, go for it...makes the D off balance a bit.
I think this is a great approach right now. Maybe we can recruit some mobile QB's in the future if we keep these run plays.
 
I'm feeling better, too. But for different reasons.

It occurs to me that watching the 2014 and 2015 Buffs is a little like watching Hamlet again and again.

Going into a Shakespeare tragedy, audience members know in advance that the main characters are going to die at the end after wrestling with dramatic plot lines for three or four hours.

The quality of Hamlet depends upon who is playing the lead characters. The director can mix things up with different costumes and settings. But the director rarely messes with the plot.

CU football is like that.

Act I: MacIntyre telling us that the players are growing up before our eyes. The players trust in one another. The Buffs aren't afraid of playing anybody. Games that were close losses in prior years would be wins this time. Bowl games and guarantees of victory get the fans pumped up.

Act II: The Buffs come out slow with a three and out or some scoreless drive in the red zone. The opposition promptly goes up by a score or two due to botched CU special teams coverage, a gasher, and/or turnover.

Act III: CU claws and fights their way back in the game. The D monopolizes on a turn over. Sefo hits the TE on a seam or a CU WR over the top on a post. The running game is moving the chains. Diego hits a few field goals.

Act IV: Victory is in reach in the 4th quarter. All CU needs to do is stop the opponent. But alas, the opposition intercepts the ball. The foes put together one or two 90 yard drives and leave CU with one last gasp as time is about to expire. A heroic and beat up Sefo chokes when marching the team up the field. Buffs lose.

Act V: The loss really stings. The coaches pledge to keep getting better and to keep chipping away. The frustrated fans polarize into factions. Pitchforks and torches are raised. Fire Nienas. Fire Lindgren. Start Aspey. Patience wears thin. Squabbles between those who support giving MacIntyre another year clash against those who question if HCMM could ever get to the promised land after years of uninspired recruiting. To be, or not to be? That is the question.

The end.

The UCLA version of this tragedy was masterful. Boy those Buffs really convinced everyone they could steal a victory from the jaws of defeat this time. It was really Sefo's best portayal since the Cal OT game. Bravo.

It will be fun to see what surprises are in store for us against Stanford when our merry band of players take the stage again.

Honestly the issue was not getting 3 instead of 7, it was getting 0 or -7 instead of 3.

Special teams bother me. Every time the Buffs kick off I am sure that the other team will return it for a TD. Why can't Graham kick it through the endzone. That seems to be the safe play. I suppose they could be betting on getting a turnover (have seen one this year) but I thik the odds are bad on this.
 
So I found this really cool idea for our fans, assuming we ever play a game that isn't at lunchtime. I don't see a spot where it makes sense to post, and it's not worth creating a new thread, so here it is under "Encouraging." This is (so I'm told) a fanbase for a Korean baseball team. Whatever. But what they do with their cell phone lights is pretty damn cool. We need to figure this out for the Fight Song.
Which, may I add, does NOT end in the words, "fight, fight, fight" but in the words "fight, fight, WIN!" but I digress. Just watch how cool this looks in the dark ...(Jump to 4 minutes in to see the light show.)
 
Here comes the unpopular dose of reality. The trees are going to boat race us. Just like UCLA would have, if they hadn't been decimated by injuries by the time they played us

Look at the banners on Pearl Street. They all say Fight Fight FIGHT! As it has always been and always shall be.

Right? What a moron. Yeah, CU doesn't have any injuries and we're loaded with 4&5 stars who can replace our injured players. It works both ways and we don't have the advantage when it comes to playing back ups.

Note, I'm talking about the drunk guy, not Brad.

The fact that you sing it wrong, and that banners have it printed wrong, does not mean you are correct.
When the song was written, these two lines were meant to rhyme:
NEVER GIVE IN,
...
FIGHT, FIGHT, WIN.

But I get that you think because you sang it that way in Folsom as a freshman, it's always been. But it hasn't.
Does it matter? Of course not. Sing away. But considering the students took "win" out of the fight song tells me a lot.
I'm looking at you, goalline. Looking at you.

And then it will be a close game again (hopefully a win), and you'll be like "Yeah so Stanford had an off day, but USC with all of that talent will boat race CU. And I really mean it this time!"

I know we'll never agree. Rhyming be damned!

However, I learned the song in early elementary school from a teacher that was a rabid fan. I went to games with my Dad (who has had season tickets since around 1965). It has always been 5 fights at the end. This goes back much further than my higher education experiences.
