there is absolutely no reason to believe that CU football will ever be relevant again, let alone "good."

actions speak louder than words (although even the words coming from the CU leadership are discouraging).

CU does not have a commitment to win.

as long as that is true, there is no point in donating, supporting, or following this. why should i care if they don't care? why should i hope for miracles when they won't even put some basic foundational stuff in place to give us a chance to be competitive?

This just in from the administrative offices at the University of Colorado:

thanks for that ^ one bright spot on the crappy Friday. I really think we have not seen the bottom of this mine yet...This summer we will see players transferring out and I believe some of these committed recruits are going to change and not come to CU...do not blame any of them one bit...CU sucks and does not care to go along with really bad coaching...truth hurts

I'm no fair weather fan. Hell, I still watched almost every Nuggets game during the Westhead disaster and the Bill Hanzlik 11-71 season. But I must say, I've had enough of the losing. It's just been too many years of atrocious coaching with no end in sight. I'm done with CU football until they give me a reason to watch again. Hell, they don't have to be a bowl team every year. Just don't get embarrassed almost every week and I'll watch. I have better things to do than watch 30+ point blowouts.

I think that the worst part of this all is realizing that we're now even more in the hole than after Hawk left.

It's not just that our admins suck and our coaching is poor, it's that honestly our talent isn't good enough to compete at this level.

One of the more sobering moments I've had recently is I re-watched some of the Hawk games, and while those teams had issues in spades..honestly..the athletes out on the field were just different, especially on offense. (Mind you, I'm talking about some terrible teams here.)

Go look at who played on that horrible 3-9 team (that one that lost badly to toledo). Look who our backs and recievers were..even the backups.

Speedy
D. Scott
Lockridge
Sumler
Deehan
J. Smith
Simas
Andre Simmons
Geer
McKnight
Will Jefferson (what ever happened to hm?)

Honestly most of these guys were at best average FBS starters.

Can anyone here honestly say that any of these guys not only wouldn't be starting on this team, but wouldn't be one of our best offensive players?

Look, those teams had some serious depth and coaching issues, but a lot of the guys they had were competitive athletically. Do we really have those guys now?

No. However, the question should be ... Can Embree recruit blue chippers from here on out?

And with our awful W/L results and a no-name coach, the answer is an emphatic 'NO' as well. Recruiting is going to tank and any idot can see that this results in a self-fulfilling prophecy, to the effect that Embree's fate was sealed upon losing to CSU in '12.

It simply becomes a matter of when our pathetic leadership pulls the trigger ... '12, or god forbid '13/'14.

The short answer is "no we don't have those guys now". But then again, Embree has had two recruiting classes, Hawk left the cupboard bare, and this is a young team. I'm not defending the coaching (because it hasn't been great), but I have a feeling the next group of coaches is going to have some success with the young guys currently on the roster.

Overreact often?

Football program has become what basketball was up until a few years ago.

No facilities upgrades, no coherent vision or plan to get better. Just a revolving door of coaches, hired on the cheap, in the hopes that we might eventually find some miracle-worker and catch lightning in a bottle.

I am not out of hope. Gerald Thomas, a freshman. Paul Richardson, back next year. Josh Tupou, Solis, only get better next year, hopefully can replace Preciak....Crawley, Wright, Mosley, are only freshman. We can't field a team of high school players and expect to win against pac 10 opponents. I think this team is going in the right direction. The players I get excited about are all freshman or sophomores, including Dillon, Tupou, Solis, Wright, Crawley, ect. You could put Nick Saban in here, and I don't think our offense would perform noticeably better. Lets face it, we have a subpar o-line, no wide receiver play-maker, our QB is a Kansas cast off, and our running back didn't get a d1 offer. This will take time. But, I do think the coaches have the players pushing themselves, and, I do think they are making headway in terms of recruiting.

Tony Jones had a Michigan offer

But all those players you listed are negated by awful schemes and playcalling. I get we're young, but the coaching is awful.

Fans always think you can out scheme superior talent. What pass play can you call with Jordan Webb is QB that will scare opposing staffs - our WR lack game-breaking speed so we see a lot of man coverage which we cannot beat.

I agree the coaching could be and has to be better. But Embree has realistically had one recruiting class to this point in time. This staff is going to have to recruit their way out of this - some of you don't like this recruiting class but they are trying to build a foundation. The talent cupboard was pretty Bare especially at QB because of Hawkins situation. This thing is going to be rebuilt in stages, first we have to recruit good enough to have competitive talent, then we up that to better talent. Not giving this staff more time will be a huge mistake.

Again, the myth of this staff still recruiting well lives on. The enjoyed a decent class in their first real cycle, and now it has already fallen apart in their second cycle. Bringing in the 12th rated class in the Pac-12 this year really isn't doing anything to help our cause.

How can you say "not keeping this staff will be a huge mistake"?

What has anyone on this current staff shown to indicate that they have the 1st clue of how to build a successful foot program. Don't tell me about McCartney or what he did or how Embree was part of that. I want to know where any of these coaches have proven that THEY KNOW how to build a football program.

Do you think the 2013 recruiting class is full of difference makers who are suddenly going to make a 1-11 team into a 5-7 team, let alone a bowl team? If you truly believe that please point out all these difference makers! I admit the QB recruit looks impressive but are we expecting a true freshman to show up and bring 4 or 5 wins? Is he going to win all those games by himself? He may have to.

Give this coaching staff 20 years, I doubt you see any significant improvement. The head coach is clueless - he admits as much with every press conference when his answer is most often "I don't know."

The fact is he DOESN'T know and that is the problem.

Barnett would probably at least have beaten CSU and Sac St with this bunch. I don't see us worse off than with HaLkins (he burned the football team to the ground), we are getting some decent but very young guys, but whereas I was pointing to next year as the breakout year, with this group of coaches, I don't see that happening at all. But no, this year's recruiting class doesn't look as good on average as last year's class.

GB had a nasty habit of losing to the goats. Just sayin'.

Barnett.

A 20-17 record his last 3 years, recruiting classes ranked in the 40s, a national scandal, embarrassing beatdowns on national tv, and Academic Progress Report scores at the end that caused scholarship losses.

Sadly, this still does qualify as the good ole days.

Only glory days I saw was 2001, 62-36 and the spanking at Cowboys stadium only to be spanked at the Fiesta bowl.

Who says it has to be a pass? Didn't this staff say that they want to run the ball? Well then they should stop lining up in the shotgun for 90% of the game and run some I-formation. If we do run the ball under center, it's usually only in a single back formation. When we ran the ball on Thursday, it was effective but hey, let's abandon that! Give Josh Ford some more carries. As for passing, get Kasa involved more. When he gets the ball we move the ball. Quit going deep to McCulloch or running the same screen play on 3rd down. Set something up.

And this 2013 class isn't helping much. Lack of BCS offers and the best commit is wavering. There's a few good players, but most are questionable. No we don't have as much talent as ASU, but getting beat 0-31 in the second half at home is awful. Giving this staff more time will be a huge mistake. How are they going to recruit while they are getting blown out by 25+ on a weekly basis? We just finished up the easiest part of the schedule and things are only going to get worse. The 41.3 ppg against is going to go by a good margin when we're done with this stretch with USC (34 ppg), UO (52.3 ppg), Furd (31.6 ppg), UW (22.8 ppg), and Arizona (37 ppg) and we'll be dead last in the country for points against, or if not last very close. Each of those teams will score 45+ on us and Oregon and USC could easily put 50+ on us.

Fans at Sacramento State must be thrilled to hear that they have superior talent to Colorado.
