The Buffs play-by-play guy was just on the local sports talk station here. Had a few interesting comments...
He went on to talk quite a bit about the financial advantages of the move, the fact that the extra $ will help CU athletics competitively, but that there is still no way CU will be able to get into an arms race with the UTs and OUs of the world.
He also agreed with the hosts' comments that there seemed to be absolutely no negative feelings about this move around the CU community. Pure excitement.
His "conspiracy theory" about CU being the first school to move was that the Pac-10 wanted nothing to do with Baylor, saw the storm brewing in Texass, so invited CU to move first. By the time the Texass schools actually had an invite, CU was in and there was nothing they could do. I think most of us had suspected that.
Said he had talked to people he knows at Texass and Oklahoma State and they are pretty sure the south block is planning to go to the Pac-10. He expects that to come down in a little while.
He said KU has quietly been getting feelers from the ACC. He said it will be interesting to see if they can decouple from KjSU if that comes to pass.
He thinks the Big XII will cease to exist. The one thing he said that surprised me the most was that, even if the leftover Big XII teams did try to keep the conference alive somehow, they might kick Missouri out. Said there are a lot of bad feelings toward the Tiggers and a lot of harsh words directed at them at the meetings last week. Also said the Big Ten isn't paying much attention to them right now, and Mizzou might be royally screwed.
