Interesting-Sefo calling out team for not putting forth 100%

Just listening to the Tuesday press luncheon and Sefo called out the team for not putting everything into practice:

Obviously I believe that we've been working hard, but there is always that extra, I guess, level that you can go to, and I don't think we've actually been there yet this year, which is kind of frustrating, It's not a one-person sport, a one-person team. You need all 11 guys that are going to play doing their part, like coach says, in their own three-by-three box.

First time we have really heard from any coach or player that maybe they need to put more effort in. Kind of like that Sefo, a true freshman QB, is prepared to call out the team and push them to get better.

This is the weeding out process that MM is dealing with. There are guys on this team that simply don't give a big enough **** to go the extra mile. Hopefully, as time goes by, MM gets in the players that are willing to give up a little more in order to help the team succeed.

Effort can take you only so far if you just suck as a player and are totally outclassed by the guy on the other side of the ball. Sometimes sucking looks like lack of full effort.

This should be good in the long term, but it could rock the boat in the short term by pissing off the loafers. Being called out by a true freshman can't be easy, but if the panties fit, wear 'em.

Love it!

This is exactly what we need and what McChesney was talking about in terms of leadership. Step up, hold guys accountable, and if they don't like it they can take a walk.

What we're missing is some big Poly OLs to come in as JUCO transfers and be Sefo's muscle if certain folks don't like what he has to say.

We definitely need more of this from our leaders. It might just mean that we have our first true leader in years. Love how this kid operates.

So I guess the lesson is when you're rebuilding you should get some Poly kids, they have a knack for leadership it seems.

Generalizing here, but:

- family / brotherhood
- toughness
- taking your football seriously enough

Sounds like MM has the leader he is looking for and I am glad the QB is the guy leading the call. He has 3 more years in this program and will probably wear the C on his jersey starting next year. It is now his team and it sounds like he is already tired of losing. Bout time one if not multiple players started setting expectations for the team.

Hate to be a hater here, but, I don't see Sefo being the starter 2 years from now! I am a former QB, from 7 yr old till HS growing up. No college experience! I just see things that are not going to cut it! NEVER does he keep the option and run w/ it. Seldom expands the play. IS good on 1st,2nd options to throw too! However he is not a Manzel, Merriota, McNair,NcNabb,Luck,Young,Caperknick ect! I know for a fact that even though we have MAC talent assemble CU will never hit pay dirt with his Athleticism..or lack there of! We need a JIMMY & a JOE QB! He ain't neither...

I'm failing to see your logic here. You are saying that because Sefo doesn't compare to some of the greatest 2-way QB's, he won't be starting in 2 years?

I like Sefo, but I think this team needs an Eric Bienemy (player, not OC :wow:). He used to get pissed, scream, get in people's faces to make something happen...I don't know if any of these kids hate losing enough. What I've seen in great competitors is they hate losing more than they like winning and will do anything to avoid a loss. Do we have any of those kids?

I can confirm that Sefo ate dinner by himself last night in his dorm room.... Take-out from the C4C.... Cannot confirm what he had to eat. Also cannot confirm if eating alone is his preference or if the lazy Tight Ends have turned the team against him.

And thus you have zero basis to speak as confidently about this kid as you are. This kid is a TRUE freshman on a bad team, from memory, the only one of those QB's you listed that played as a true freshman was Mariotta? Could be wrong there…but the ones that did anything as a freshman (manziel and luck) did so as RS freshman on teams with a LOT more talent than what CU has. A year of maturation in a college program often makes a HUGE difference (not that you'd necessarily know that). Why don't you wait and see what this kid does over the next year or two, and I'm betting you'll be surprised. I say this thinking that this is the best young QB talent that I have seen at CU for a very long time…..maybe since Ochs. Is he perfect? No But he has multiple tools that we haven't seen at that position in quite a while. Leadership may be at the top of that list
