I don’t know what it is about today’s society. It just seems that we are always being lied to! Politics, religion, business, the media, it is just hard to know who we can trust

The University of Washington’s Mascot, Dubs — Star of the Show & Family

Dubs is a 75-pound Alaskan Malamute who just happens to be the University of Washington’s mascot and a conformation show dog in the Pacific Northwest.

DUBS is a MALAMUTE??? I think Dubs is adorable, but I didn't realize he wasn't an actual husky. That's - ummm - odd. UW says they chose the Mal "because it is the largest and strongest of all Husky breeds." Technically they are not the same breed, but they are very closely related [the lineage section on Wikipedia's entry for Alaskan Malamute cites studies to back this up]. UW is being generous with the "husky" label. Sorry for being pedantic.

Anyway, we're skipping our tailgating tonight and making sure we get in early for senior day. Go Buffs!

I'm sure you are a wonderful person and I don't want to offend you in any way, but it is this sort of relativist thinking that is pissing me off!!

Right = Using a husky when your mascot is a husky

Wrong = Using any dog that is not a husky if your mascot is a husky.

It's that ****ing simple! No grey area here.

Now let's go kick the **** out of the Malamutes!

I think you misread me: I agree with you. I said UW is being generous with the husky label (i.e., it's not technically a husky). They should use a husky (either Alaskan or Siberian would be acceptable).

To be fair: I also get pedantic about people who say Ralphie is not a buffalo. It's true that scientifically she is a bison and not a buffalo. HOWEVER, the term buffalo was being used to describe North American bison as early as the 17th century (prior to the official scientific classification of the animal as a "bison" in the 19th century). Therefore, the usage of the term buffalo is - according to sources like Websters - an acceptable term to call a North American bison. Thus, I have zero problems calling Ralphie a buffalo. :)

Dude, the North American spelling of the word "gray" is "gray", not "grey." 'nut said. Go buffs!
