Jack Del Rio is currently the favorite for the USC job

Interesting idea a friend had though - given that Del Rio is currently on the staff of a very hot NFL team, and he publicly stated (through the team) that he is committed to the Broncos through the rest of the season, $C would have to wait until perhaps February to pursue him. If the Broncos win the Super Bowl, there's a good chance JDR will become a hot HC prospect in the NFL as well. I don't know JDR personally, so I don't know what preference he would have between college and pro, but is $C willing to take a chance on waiting that long for JDR only to have him pull a Kubiak and stay in the pros?

I really don't see JDR as a college coach. I am with you and think he takes another head coaching job somewhere.

I'm not sure it's the chance that he pulls a Kubiak that would worry them so much (although the NFL should be a definite worry to them) as much as the fact that if the Broncos make the Super Bowl, he's pretty much 100% unavailable to them through signing day. For a team with scholarship limits still going on, they need to make the most of the schollies they have...

I'm hoping for a roller coaster.

Sarkesian to USC.

Mora Jr. to Washington.

Bobby Petrino to UCLA.

weak try this roller coaster:

Nick Saben to USC and then after the press conference dumps them for Texas, they then back a dump truck to LSU and get Miles, Alabama gets Stoops from Oklahoma who pick up Sark from Washington. LSU gets desperate and takes Urban Meyer from Ohio State who steal Mike Gundy from Oklahoma State. Washington gets Peterson to jump across the border and Oklahoma State steals Graham from Arizona State. After the chairs are shuffled, Mack Brown ends up Boise State.

I was trying to be realistic with my rollercoaster.

Yours is much more fun.

But if Boise State loses Petersen, would it be much more entertaining if they hired HaLkins back?

I would personally pay for his buyout from Intramurals to see that happen.

Haden is going to have some time before he has to make a decision. Supposedly Del Rio would love the job because he still has a deep affection to the school. So I would see him as a likely candidate.

But there are going to be all sort of back channel contacts with coaches that already have jobs. Forget names like Petino - USC does not have to take damaged goods and Haden will not do it.

Here is my dark horse candidate - Mark Richt from Georgia. He has always been unloved with the Dawgs, he is a top coach and is a top notch recruiter, he is known to be be of high integrity and in his last contract negotiation there is no buyout clause in his contract. He is basically free agent. Why it will not happen though is Mark Richt has stated repeatedly that he will stay at Georgia as long as they will have him.

Richt is riding high at UGA right now after beating the SoCar and LSU. They have a legit chance to run the table and win the SEC vs a beatable Bama team that looks bored being #1.

I like UGA alot but disagree that Richt is both A: A great recruiter and B: A elite head coach. They did beat LSU & S.Car this year but I think his record vs. Top 10 programs before that was pretty bad. As far as recruiting goes he has struggled to keep his top talent in the state of Georgia these past few years and was actually on the hot seat with the program about 3 years ago.

Jon Gruden jumps out at me. I think he would do very well in college recruiting and running a tight ship. If USC wants to keep the pro style offense he would be a great hire.

In the "what have you done for me lately" world that is CFB, run the table, win the SEC and all will be forgiven for Richt. Slip up a long the way and the pitch forks will be out again.

I think in the end, Kevin Sumlin leaves A&M for USC.

I don't see where any this helps us in the long run - all scenarios, CU is furked forever.

Would teach the boys in Blue - but will never happen they hate him almost worse than we do.

I am still hoping for HaLk to $C....

Finally getting somewhere where Kiffin's firing is good for CU. I like this best. Never happen but a man can dream.

And I know DLR loves USC but I am not sure why a career NFL coach (who could have gone to college at any time in past 20 years) would want to go to USC now. A still on sanctions, B he WILL be an NFL coach after this season or at very most next. In college you have to deal with recruiting and most importantly NCAA. My bet is USC tries to run at him but he is staying put in the NFL

Muschamp to UT is a possibility. Texas is rumored to be looking into bringing in Florida's AD as well.

Am I alone in thinking Jack Del Rio would be a crappy college head coach?

Hard to say. I thought Carroll and Mora Jr would fail, but that didn't happen.

NFL coaches do well where recruiting is easy due to local talent. That's my working theory, at least. If they don't have to go on the road to find talent, they thrive.

Carroll had 10 years or so as a college assistant before going to the pros.

Mora Jr didn't really have any, other than a GA gig at UDub for a year, but it should be mentioned that he grew up with his dad coaching in college - Mora Sr only went to the pros when Mora Jr was a teen.

Del Rio has never had any college coaching experience at all. He went right from playing in the pros to coaching in the pros.

I'm not sure that it matters very much considering Mora Jr. only had one year as a GA, but the total lack of college experience and the fact that he was drafted 28 years ago might make him stop and think twice about wanting to go there.

Besides, as has been said repeatedly, he's going to get an NFL gig soon.

Having said all that, knowing $C, I think they'll only call JDR after they've done all their stupid **** like courting Saban, Miles, Stoops, Gruden, etc etc etc.

Jon Gruden is a dick. He plays head games with his players and is not that well liked. Personally I think Del Rio or Gruden will be good for the job. USC will decline in either of their hands.
