For those who hadn't noticed, Jack has started the last 4 games at OG in place of the injured Pursell. Jack is a senior who was on scholarship at Rutgers before transferring to Colorado as a walkon. He's still a non-scholarship player from what I can tell.

Offensive Coordinator Johnson mentions his value here in this clip, at the 2:11 mark.

Just feel a walkon who works this hard, should get some due visibility here on AllBuffs. Here's to Jack Shutack!

I’m somewhat ashamed to admit to being one who hasn’t appreciated Jack’s contributions. Thanks for starting this thread.

Howell picked up on this story with a great write up here. Walk-ons are important to any program, and when one becomes a starter, it should be celebrated.

During one of his first practices, in August 2017, he got in scuffle with defensive lineman Frank Umu, who – much like Myles Garrett of the Cleveland Browns in a recent game against the Pittsburgh Steelers – ripped off Shutack’s helmet and hit him in the head with it.

“It was not fun. It’s unfortunate. I’ve put it behind me. I’ve forgiven everybody involved. Everything from that point has just been an upward trajectory, for sure.”

This season, Shutack has been extremely valuable, first as a backup and now as a starter at right guard the last five games.

“It’s a great feeling because last year I couldn’t even smell the field and this year really affirms my confidence in myself,” said Shutack, who has played 273 snaps this season, recording 32 knockdown blocks.

He has overcome a lot to live his dream and reach his goals. Glad for him. He also seems like a great guy.

Don't know what his major is but if any of you guys are hiring he'd be a guy to look at. Somebody who can overcome obstacles, handle setbacks, deal with frustration, and come out of it on top, and still be well liked by those around him would be a huge asset to most organizations.
