Jon Embree's Future: My letter to CU (published on AB home page)

At this point, I recommend that everyone bombs the administration and regents. They need to know that this isn't going unnoticed.

Great letter Nik. I've shared it with all my friends on Facebook and retweeted as well.

I sent Bohn an email, letting him know that I was willing to make a donation to assist with paying off what's left of Embree's contract.

While I hope Bohn and the other powers-that-be are flooded with similar calls and emails, I am truly a nobody when it comes to CU athletics and donations. I don't live in Colorado. I don't buy season tickets. Etc. It will be up to those people who do hold season tickets, and who do hold club suites, to make the demands that will effectuate change at CU.

None of that information individually is new to me, but holy ****, when it's put into a single well thought out piece like, it becomes horribly depressing at just what we're looking at.

Buffnik -- you should send that in a letter to the editor to the Boulder Daily Camera.

This. All the newspapers that cover the Buffs (Denver Post, Times-Call, etc.), the 3 Denver sports radio stations, and any other Buffs media sources you can think of. I'd say this could be a pretty persuasive piece of writing.

Nik, this needs to go to every media outlet and station in the front range. Put it on rivals, Buffbackers and anywhere else we can to get it across. Fantastic job!

If changes aren't made, it surely will not be for your lack of effort recently. I can respect your commitment to your convictions, Nik.

Why limit it to the front range? Great job, Nik. I thought you had said you had little time to devote due to a new job? Well, we are all very appreciative of your efforts. Sure as hell hope it pays off.

I have talked at length in the past to Tom Kensler and just sent the letter to him and asked that he help get this pushed into the MSM on the Front Range. I will let you all know if I hear back from him. I also told him that it was not sent to Henderson because we despise him and are pissed about his absolutely terrible coverage of CU.

DiStffano's response, just a guess: "Mr. Nik. Thank you for your letter. If you are willing to donate $50 million to the AD, then we can talk."

Thanks Nik for summarizing the historical context and listing the disturbing facts about what has transpired.

The rebuttal is simply that everyone knew this was a rebuilding year and that CU was going to lose a lot of games, and was likely to get blown out by the top programs.

I think your argument could be sharpened by not just examining the output, but also the inputs and organizational process turning inputs into outputs.

It isn't the losses that it most disturbing it is the lack of player development and the regression in a number of areas since last year, especially the offensive line and linebacker play. The mitigating factor is that the Defense did not have the bodies to field an effective spring practice. For instance, one of the reasons that Greg Henderson developed so quickly was because he could practice against Richardson and Clemens. But I don't think the lack of healthy players fully explains the mess on defense this year.

There is a serious lack of strategic thinking (aka leadership) both on the field and off. This can be seen in the numbers recruited at various positions (no safeties or linebackers recruited last year), gametime adjustments, depth chart assignments, and so on.

This speaks to a dysfunction in the coaching staff that is larger than any individual coach, and maybe the organization itself.

I think there needs to be a very thorough review of the program from top to bottom to identify these inadequacies. And then a decision should be made as to whether the current coaching staff is able, willing, and likely to fix these problems or whether a new staff needs to be brought in. But this review needs to be completed in the next week to salvage this years recruiting class.

Dear Nik,

Last I checked, CU has more all-conference Players than any other school in the only statIstic that matters, academics. Also, I'm sure you made some points about the on-field play but I quit reading after the first paragraph and continued my checkers game with Phil.

Nik, your letter is very well done. Man, I hope it gains legs! Certainly, the best shot is if it gets the attention of someone or others outside of the AD. I doubt any of us believe anything could sway the AD.
