Eh, maybe. But what is that based on exactly? Nobody has him in a mock for 2015 that I know of. I love the kid and all, but he really doesn't have a NBA position.
Not trying to deter the thread or anything, so delete or move away my comments, but I just don't get the reasoning for how he is likely gone. Imo, Xavier Johnson more likely to leave early and I'd still say the odds of that are around 20-25%.
He went to the draft board and got a grade last year a good grade extremely late-first to mid-second round, basically 10 slots later than Spencer graded after his soph year. Unless he completely flat-lines or regresses, he gone.
As for position he is very much a power forward.
I'm taking the same approach with the Little Fundamental as I did with Spencer and Dre's junior years: He's gone unless something weird happens.
and even if something weird happens he is probably still gone.
Honestly ok with it. Him leaving means he has at least as good a season as last year, and if we get that from him then we will be plenty successful.
Total speculation here, but Josh seems like the type of kid that would seriously consider staying around and finishing his degree before making the jump. Military family, good student, etc. I know Spencer's injury will hang a cloud on any CU player contemplating early / later draft declarations, but out of any of the NBA-ready kids we've had, he seems like he may stick for another year. I hope, anyway.

If he gets a 1st round grade this year, he should leave. Tad would probably guide him that direction. He's been pretty consistent in his opinion that if there's going to be a guaranteed NBA contract that you take that while it's there for you.
I would say we, as a fan base should get used to it. It is a problem I don't see going away with the type of talent Boyle brings in. Not the 1 and done type but 2 or 3 and gone are going to become the norm around here I think
Let's hope we always have a frosh, soph or jr the NBA wants to draft in the 1st round.
If Jelly leaves this year, it's very likely that we have an underclassmen drafted in four straight years (and 5 of 6 years) - Alec, Dre, Mayor, Jelly and Fortune.
He will leave with a first round grade and should. It is good for CU to be know to develop these kids and put them in the league. That is what every kid coming out of high schools wants and dreams of and they will know that CU/Tad delivers. Advantage CU.
If Tad didn't tell the kids to go pro when they got a 1st rd grade, I'd be pissed.
Love Calipari or hate him, but he flat out says that it's his job to get the kids out of there as fast as possible. It means he's done his job properly. That's the way we need to start viewing the game.
From what I've seen, could be a 20 ppg guy next year.

Seems that it all has to do with your draft potential. I think a big part of it has to do with what he thinks could be next year. Being the "star" player on a one and done NCAA team, that is just outside the top 25 is one thing. Being the star player on a top 5 team with a year of exposure is another.
Does CU get a few new guys where a serious NCAA run is possible?
If they get those players, is Scott still the star?
So yea, overall, I would still say he is gone. CU should be good enough this year to highlight him, and to make the kind of leap from where they are to being a top team in the country, they would have to bring in a lot of hot prospects, taking a lot of the spotlight off Scott.

absolutely agree. I have no idea why Kaminsky came back for his senior year at Wisconsin. His stock was at it's absolute highest last year and he is now costing himself money.
I look forward to Goose using his ban stick and trimming some of the fat around here when someone starts a "Josh Scott is Stupid to Leave Early" thread.

Like others have said if he gets a first round grade he needs to go. Look at mitch mcgary. He was a top 10, top 15 pick and decided to come back, got hurt, slid to the end of the first round.
Always take the money when it's there. This would also be another great thing for the program. He was ranked 61 nationally, and that typically isnt fodder for 1st round picks after 3 years. If we can get a reputation of finding solid players in the 50-150 range and turning them into pros after a few years, that's a good spot to be in.

We don't even have to leave campus to see someone coming back getting hurt in the draft. Spencer got a "late first, early second" grade after his sophomore year. He came back partially to improve his stock and partially because he loved CU/Tad. The first pick in the second round in that draft was Alan Crabbe. Dre was the second to last (?) pick in the first round.
Does anyone here honestly think that Spencer doesn't go above both of those guys?
Richard Roby was talked about as a potential lottery pick after his freshman year. First round pick his sophomore year. 2nd round pick his junior year. He went undrafted after his senior year.
I'm a big fan of letting the kids run as soon as they can. Yeah, it sucks, but if you do it right it helps the program more than it hurts. Anyone think we get Fortune if we hadn't landed Burks, Dre & Mayor in the draft the last 4 years?

We're starting to get there.
In fairness, at the time Alec made his call we all were used to decades of a star player leaving and the result being that CU would suck again for a while.
It takes a little while to get used to the new dynamic of having a program instead of a star-driven team.
