Colorado was cruising through its non-conference schedule, entering Pac-12 play at 10-2 on the year. But the controversial overtime loss in Arizona to open league play seems to have sent the Buffaloes into a tailspin. Five games in, they're now just 1-4 against conference foes and in need of a quick turnaround.
One player that certainly has not disappointed, however, is Josh Scott. He's making the most of the 29 minutes of playing time he's seeing per game, averaging 13.1 points and 5.8 rebounds. What's more, he's fulfilling his duties as a big man without getting into foul trouble. That means he's someone Tad Boyle can count on to be on the floor late in a game when CU may need him most.
Scott has put up double-digit points in 13 contests already this year, including eight of his last nine. So the improvement that is generally expected from a young player certainly seems to be taking place as he gains more experience at the college level. He arrived in Boulder in the fall as a four-star recruit ranked No. 38 overall in the country and, so far, he's more than living up to expectations. John Gasaway ranks the effective forward at No. 10 in the nation among rookies, just behind likely top three NBA pick Nerlens Noel of Kentucky and sharpshooter Nik Stauskas of Michigan. Not bad company to be in.
